Thinking of any Possible Mods Already?

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 3:01 am

Hey guys

Based on what has been confirmed by Bethesda, and considering what might transition over from Oblivion, are there things you would like modded in the PC version of Skyrim?

I've been trying to seek out information on this, but I would assume that Skyrim will follow a similar clothing system as Oblivion did rather than Morrowind; in this I mean that one will not be able to throw a robe over a full set of Daedric armor, right?

In light of this, I would love to have the modding community tackle this, which would aid Spellswords and Battlemages like me. It was a huge blow to the gameplay experience for me in Oblivion when I found this was not possible.

Next, and I'm sure somebody has mentioned this before, I wouldn't mind a mod that somehow circumvents the limitation of 70 perks per character (of the 250 available). It could be scaled such that after level 50, one would receive more than one perk per level—or something along those lines. I simply don't see myself creating numerous characters to take advantage of all the perks. Never did in the past and I don't intend to now. I like to embrace the atmosphere for the first time, but tire of redundancy found in multiple characters (even if they're drastically different regarding karma and skill-focus). So why not make the game more lasting and enjoyable for those single-character-creators like me?

I am also curious as to what extent scrolls will be involved in the game. The more I think about it, the more genius I think they are. Bear with me, as I'm slow to catch on and this has been an epiphany for me, but scrolls are useful for those who do not choose to be spellswords/battlemages and split their skills down the middle—for those who choose to throw everything into combat rather than magicka. It makes "gameplay balancing" sense that a scroll would be much more costly than purchasing spells, as the consumer is making up for his or her ineptitude in magicka (like baking a cake yourself over buying a ready-made birthday cake with all decoration done: you'll pay more due to your lack of skill and time put fourth).

The problem I've found with scrolls in past titles is that they are simply too weak to often justify using them (save for summon golden saint, etc.). What I suggest is the following:

1. Provide weak scrolls, but also very powerful scrolls—scrolls that are rare to find or very costly to purchase.

2. Much like there were "spell-makers" in Morrowind or in the Academy in Oblivion, consider allowing for traders who can make custom scrolls... With near-limitless range/power... But at a cost of course...

3. Likely beyond the ability of modders and more of a suggestion for a future Elder Scrolls, consider coupling scroll-creation with the Enchanting skill.

Anyway, just throwing some thoughts out there as I anxiously await tomorrow night.

I want to make a mod before the game is released, I think it is possible if I know the directory and name of something like a sound or dds file

I was just curious what people thought of the plausibility. I didn't mean to say that I could mod it now or ever. My suggestions (more or less points of discussion) are based off of what has been confirmed and what is likely (possibly) to remain from Oblivion.

Definitely gonna work on a mod to add in a barbershop type thing into the game. I get bored of hairstyles! But not my entire character =x

I played a lot of Oblivion with a lot of mods. The robes-over-armor thing was never really solved. The engine was built to have a certain amount of anchor points for clothing pieces and I never found a mod that could get over that limit terribly well. Plus, putting a robe over armor caused all kinds of clipping problems in the Oblivion engine.

That said, there were some fantastic mods that made battlemage-y looking armored robes and such to solve the problem aesthetically.

Skyrim clothing has even fewer anchor points than Oblivion clothing. The chest and pants pieces are combined like in Fallout. The rumor is that Bethesda's art team made this choice to give them more freedom in designing how armor would look, since they didn't have to worry about whether different armor pieces would clip into each other at the waist.

Buuut back on topic....

The first mod I'm gonna work on is going to be saddlebags for my horse.

The first mod I hope to see... well there are 2
Skyrim Script Extender (I bet I'll need it to make saddlebags)
Skyrim Mod Manager and / or a Skyrim version of Wrye Bash (Wrye Slash?)

I bet the first mod released will add naked people. And the second will add boob jiggle. TESnexus can be a scary, scary place.

I'm thinking about maybe transferring this http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37254 over from FO3/New Vegas, especially if Skyrim's new scripting language supports object oriented programming (can't really imagine doing without classes and functions after using only real programming languages for the past several months). I had considered making it for Oblivion, but I got into that game too late and never played it enough to justify the amount of time it would take.

There is a good robes over armor mod for Oblivion, it took awhile to be made, it has very little clipping and works great. I image there will be one for Skyrim as well. Also I suspect a clothes under armor mod as Oblivion had that as well.

Also one that fixes the falmer. Replace those goblin replacements with something like Xenius' falmer, maybe even interactable npcs. They deserved better than becoming generic enemies

What about a disguises mod. Change a Breton into a Kaljit for X amount of time and for X amount of currency. I think this would make the race issues more interesting.

I'm going to try breaking into the modding scene with Skyrim. Hopefully five-ten years will be plenty of time for me to learn the inns and outs of modding. :) Depending on how far I can go, I'd love to be able to create some "Expanded Character Option" mods that would add some cool powers for the player to use, (such as shape shifting, demon summoning,steampunk/clockwork enhancements , and construct familiars/followers), as well as some cool player homes and maybe some custom races. I guess it depends on how much effort I'm willing to put in, and how much time I'm willing to put into learning the tools.

Of course i'm thinking about the mods already. That is the very reason i am getting the PC version over the 360 version (i'm still unsure if my pc can handle it, but modding tipped the scales).
I could never get it for my 360 even if it would run better and allow me to skip upgrading my hardware yet again, because of the mods. I must have the mods, hence i must have the pc version :)

What do i rather want, a great game that lasts 100 hours, or a great game that lasts 100 hours + 100's of hours everytime i want to reinstall it as amazing mods come out? (i've reinstalled Oblivion like 9 times lol)

Games that modding is so incredibly important for, i would in fact not buy them if there was no modding, even though they are good games on their own.
The Elder Scrolls, Total War, Mount & Blade and Civilization. :)

Well, if it isn't too hard I might make my own custom interface, unless the default interface already works alright. I did one for Dead Island and Depths of Peril so it would be fun to try it out for Skyrim as well.

Some sort of Realism mod would be cool though. Maybe Texture mods for those with awesome computers and poor computers.

Bringing "From the Void" back from the depths I abandoned it to with Morrowind.
'Course, voice acting and the daunting amount of new models to create are both major hurdles right now, but I'm hoping this will be less of an issue as time progresses.
First things first, we need TESCK out, and on my end I start praying there's compatible model exporters for 3DS Max 9.

Wont know till I play ... short answer :P

I know different towns will treat your character differently based on their actions. But if hidden actions (you kill someone inside a house with no witnesses) are known to all towns people in that town ... well that would need to go. There were a few mods like that in Oblivion, so I'm sure they will pop up again if needed.

A mod so that shop keepers wont "magically" know when an item has been stolen and therefore wont buy it.

If magic items can only be recharged with a soul stone and not slowly over time, I would like a mod for that. Again there was one in Oblivion (though the engines limitation only let it work on equiped items), so hopefuly it could be done again.

I ran over a hundred mods in Oblivion so I'm sure after a few weeks of playing I'll think of more. That's not to take anything away from Skyrim or Bethesda, but having a personalized game is always a nice option.

Probably gonna mod a function that allows increasing base stats based off filled soul gems. Like say, 20 filled grand soul gems gets you 5 points of HP. I'd probably integrate it in game using Clavicus Vile. He likes souls, no?

Ones that will stretch my GPU's legs. Those are typically the only mods I download. Weather would be included in that.

Retexture so it's easier to tell apart different types of potion in inventory.

Spoiler
Higher difficulty on early dragons so they're at least as tough as giants.

More, better-looking hair >.<

A mod to raise undead dragons, and become a Lich. What ??? I like Necromancy. Though I've actually been learning how to mod on oblivion for the purpose of being able to in Skyrim. Originally was going to do a Morrowind mod, but changed over to just trying to make Skyrim better. Going to play the game to death non stop for a week, then start modding. :P

Mod to tame dragons, no doubt :D
Possibly not that hard? Just a 'is-friend' tag on a spawned dragon?
