Is Dynamic Snow a lie ?

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 5:24 pm

bravo!

ty

so what is the difference if snow "falls" and "piles" up by actually accumulating snow flakes!!! OR changing the level where snow "accumulates" on the ground (texture trick)??!!

hmmm?

nothing, we have a saying here, all ways lead to the wind mill.... so Bethesda has to find the easiest one to get there.

Building up individuals levels using the flakes would be both gpu and cpu intensive, it's easier to dynamically paint the terrain.

OT I already figured the snow would be clipping through objects, however I was hoping not to be proved right about the rain, oh well, I look to the modding community with a prayer.

On that note..where are the convective snow storms, mesocyclonic low pressure systems, and Cumulus Nimbus Mamatus clouds?
They are ingame and they are good. But i expected more from the weather system (judging by bethesda words)
Btw i love the game

Rain and snow still goes through static, solid objects? :(

I think he means that there are places in the map where NEVER snows or never rains

That doesn't have anything to do with beying "Dynamic". That's simply the climate the developers chose for those regions.

As long as the weather doesn't follow the player, I'm fine. I don't even care none too much about clipping through solid statics.

I'm more concerned about the lie that they fixed rain and snow falling through solid objects. If you didn't fix it, why say you did? It's not like it would stop people from buying the game, so why lie about it?

Or you could just wait for all the weather mods to come out just like the ones for oblivion, and look how much resource those mods ate up...

Hey, OP, http://www.dailygreen.de/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/super-computer.jpg
These are power cables coming from a weather-anolyzing computer. It′s one of the most powerfull machines in the world. It has 15.000GB...of RAM.
Do you own one of these? In that case I′ve got good news for you: You can now make a mod for individual snowflakes!

I'm playing Skyrim on Xbox and i am disappointed by the lack of "dynamic" snow as it was said by bethesda.
The snow appears when you explore the mountains and icy plains but it is pretty much static. It never snows randomly in a different climate than the default snowy/icy regions.
I haven't seen a single flake of snow landing on ground persistently.
The weather system is rather average as i see...
Rain also passes trough walls and structures as well as snow.
It may only be available for the highest PC specs. Similar to the moving palm leaves in Crysis and similar physics. It's disabled on lower systems (maybe even the 360).

Where did Bethesda ever say they fixed the rain and snow? , there was never any response when they were repeatedly questioned about.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4MvrI7u9ZI That's more or less the kind of snow he and many others were expecting, and it is certainly not something you would need a super computer to make. Adjusting the level of snow over time would not make it that much more resource intensive. It's hardly something to freak out about not having, but the guy is allowed to be a little disappointed i was myself when i realized. So yeah it's not really a lie but it's easy to misunderstand and get your hopes up of something more then what is in game.

Seriously? A great game like Skyrim comes out with hundreds of hours of gameplay, werewolves, dragons.......

and you complain about the weather system? :cryvaultboy:
Well they advertised it as groundbreaking.. when in reality...
Don't lie to us Tod, just say things like they are. If you are working hard on the quests and other things and the engine is still the same and not so spectacular.. then just say so. I'm sure alot of people are gonna be majorly disappointed. No footprints in snow.. no nothing. Dynamic snow my ass

Do you know how much ram it would take to make a ton of non static snowflakes. Its only the 360 we're talking about.
