Escapism vs Reality

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 11:20 am

I am a huge fan of TES series, being that I only played Morrowind and Oblivion. I love open world RPG's and find that these games are among the best. There aren’t many that can compare. I’ve been looking forward to this game since the release of the teaser trailer, and my fantastic escapism feeling returned. I work 2 jobs in a horrible economy, with a sick wife, in a small apartment with 3 dogs. The time I have to myself is extremely valuable to me, and if I am not exorcising my demons by going out (having a social life is so crucial to sanity), I play video games. The only games I tend to play are of the science fiction/fantasy nature, because I get enough visions of modern war (no pun intended) on the news/internet daily. In my time playing games I get to leave my reality for a bit, jump into a world that is new and wonderful and dangerous. With that being said, I find it very interesting that there are so many people that take this game (yes it's a game) so seriously. You wouldn’t have bought it if you didn’t want to get away from your life for a while. You know you want to escape all the seriousness and stress of whatever situation you live in. It may be work, school, or some authority figure that you need to get away from. I love these games because it gives me a sense of fantasy, a sense of escape. I don’t care if the textures are popping in/out. I don’t care if the facial animations are not far advanced from Oblivion. I don’t care if you don’t like how the menus/map are set up. I don’t care if you are a PS3/360/PC f***boy! All of you sound like my grandmother at my wedding telling me how I shouldn’t have served chicken because "people don’t like chicken." If all of you who are complaining take a game this serious than I fear for you in real life. Either you have none, or are too young to have felt the impact of the real world, and all the crap it brings. When I leave my day job today, I am stopping off at the store to get my reserved copy, dropping it off at my place, and going to my night job, where I will be working my a** off to try and get out early, so that I may escape, if only for a few hours, in the new world that these great people at Bethesda help create for all of us. I won’t care if there are few glitches. I do sincerely apologize to those having tech issues that are not allowing you to play this game, or for those with an SD TV, because it seems as those people truly have a gripe. I wish everybody the best of times in their fantasy world, as well as the real.

Paragraphs are your friend. I would suggest you use them if you want anyone to actually read what you just took the time to write.

Walls of text aren't pleasant to read, and it takes a minimal amount of effort to press enter a couple of times.

I'm only trying to be helpful. You obviously took time to write what you wrote. If you don't break it up people are not going to read it.

Not trolling, trying to be helpful. However, if you don't people to read it, then by all means leave it be.

Better, but try indenting the paragraphs with the tab button to make it even more pleasant to read. :)

Really, that just hurts my eyes. Well spaced paragraphs, ESPECIALLY on a white on black forum, are essential. I shall read it now, despite the text merging together and making it hard to read for me.

I truly apologize for my grammatical errors.
I didn't think that my rant about how people take this game way too serious turned into an English lesson. I guess its just an example of Skyrim itself. Theres substance there, but those not willing to really take look wont see it.

There, I have tried to help. By the way, you are right. This is just a game, but it is a game with flaws. When you pay $60+ for a game you expect it to be a good as possible. Game breaking bugs, and there are some, isn't what one expects.

Thank you. I feel my point is totally missed because of my rushed typing. I am frustrated with people that live and die with gaming. I love games, but I love my life more.

I think it has more to do with how Games companies are pretty much selling us unfinished games. This has been prolific during the past five years, having to wait for a patch to fix an easy to spot issue that should not be present in a complete game is bad. Some issues are spotted immediately by the players, so why not the QA testers games companies hire?

I do agree with you, though. A lot of people simply take it too far, and it reflects badly on us all. I enjoy the escapism of games, I enjoy doing things I would never be able to do in the real world, but I certainly wouldn't rant on a forum about how bad some of the flaws are. Like you, I tend to enjoy a game for what it is.

Haha, yea.
Shorter lines are easier and faster to read (because, the lines can be pretty long on these forums...)

...And paragraphs are better if they are seperated...not side-to-side...
