Is it just me, or do I find dual wielding pointless?

Seriously, I'm against 2 frost trolls at the same time. I need to block. but if you dual wield, you can't.

When using a sword + shield, I defeat both of them.
Yet when dual wielding, I die within 30 seconds.

I hate the fact I can't defend myself. Because I also can't block when I use powers.

Better trade in for a claymore, or put a spell or shield in one of those arms.

yeah I still think it was a mistake to make it that you cant block while dual wielding... Makes no sense, but I still really want to try it out.

I used a shield for a while...even put perks into it. Then, I decided to go for dual weilding swords. With the faster attack perks while weilding two weapons, the sword critical hit perk, plus other damage perks, I am mowing through enemies (does use a lot fo stamina though). You ARE holding down both mouse buttons (or triggers) to swing both weapons simultaneuously, right? Also, potions. Buff potions. HP potions. Spells. Shouts....a lot more to fighting than just swing, block, swing. My favorite tactic so far is to start combat with a full unrelenting force shout to knock enemies apart (you can use this to single out an enemy from a group, if you get a good angle, usually giving you enough time to kill one). Just because you put perks in dual weild doesnt mean you can't equip a shield for a tough fight.

Blocking is my main part, I'm awesome at it. I block 9/10 hits. So in 9 hours, I've died once. And that was to a Frost Troll.

I actually love DW. I have just learned that for stronger enemies - like two-handed wielding people or trolls that you have to find advantage terrain to tie them up for hit and run dmg.

I always have a destruction spell in one hand and one handed weapon in the other, I like that much more than two one handed weapons...

When I didn't have anything my illusion spells could touch I double tapped a lot when dual wielding and did some very nice damage.

You're putting out double damage in sacrifice for a block. in my opinion thats a great way to balance the pros and cons of all melee fighting styles. If you practise alot more with dual wielding, it can be great, invest in some health and wear light armour (for 50% extra stamina regen) or Heavy armour (for more armour rating and a 50% chance not to stagger) I was pretty bummed out with not being able to block whilst dual wielding, either with two weapons or with spells or a mixture. But working on some tactics and planning my moves before a fight, or even just running and dodging incoming blows when and where you can makes a hell of a lot of difference when fighting. Investing perks into dual wielding can make t=its damage devastating.

If you dual-wield you have to be very aggressive, have tonnes of stamina so you can just rip your foes apart before they can get a hit in.

As to why you can't block when dual-wielding it is simply there to make it have some kind of weakness.
If you could attack twice as fast, have twice as many chances to crit, and deal twice as much damage, giving you the ability to block as well would make all other melee classes pale in comparison. It is there for balance.

I like it this way, gotta be light and fast. Attack when they put their guards down and dodge when they attack. Keeps me on my toes.

I'm more of a fan of the sword in one hand, destruction spell in the other, although sometime it feels like I'm playing Bioshock 2.

IF a mage spec you can focus your arm and gear for more potent spelss without the need to dual wheld. IF focusign more damage, use the destruction body peice. THe low cosumption amulets, enchant for more destruction on top of it (once you are high enough level) head peice with more mana and regen, legs with destruction stacked.

THere are guanlets for mages that deflect attacks so you can still dual wheld rather then havign a spell to deflect. There is a neck peice that absorbs incoming magika. and a ring set that deflects damage (non magic) even bette when enchanted right (higher level).

TO many people are judging way to soon before they realize what is available. My mage can dual wheld, deflect, and regenerate all at the same time. PLus if more hten one enemy, I don't need to figh, Higher fury makes them kill each other while I watch.

I duel wield and before the 35% attack speed bonus perk, I attacked the same speed whether it was duel wielding or with a single sword and the only way to do twice the damage was the attack with both left and right hand at the same time which is half the speed of a normal attack and harder to aim. Duel wielding has too many weaknesses.
