Forcing me to level in a row and a couple of other annoyance

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 6:40 am

Hi.

As a long time player of TES and Fallout games. I have to say for the most part, I am very much enjoying Skyrim. A few things have been a little disappointing for me but the main one is as follows. I put off leveling so I could train 5 times in what I perceive as a minor skill for the character I am trying to build. Once I had managed to train 5 times, I leveled up hoping to stop at level 2 so I could pay for more training. The game however forced me to level all the way to level 6 so that is 20 times that I wasn't allowed to train. Am I missing something? Is there a way for me to not level again once I am in the level up interface even though I can technically level up to level 6?

Another thing I was a little disappointed about was that there was no implementation of the "hardcoe mode" that was implemented so nicely into New Vegas. Having to sleep, eat and drink just made New Vegas that little more immersive and I feel food in particular in Skyrim has very little importance.

Finally, the last little gripe I have is that the Karma system is not present although this is somewhat negated by the fact that hired mercenaries will track you down and try to kill you if you steal too much so I guess really that this is a fair compromise.

In closing I have to say this game is gorgeous and in most respects I think it exceeds every other game Bethesda has made to date. It's just being forced to level up beyond the level I want and the lack of hardcoe mode that has proved to be an annoyance.

Thanks for reading.

I think when you train it is a way of buying experience. so rather than doing it over and over it condenses it and levels you that way. I could be wrong though and most likely am.

I always hated the karma system, and its better its not in this game, and here is why.
If you go to a different town, they dont care what you did in that other town, only what you do in their town.

So its not like fable or ME where the more good things you do the more karma you get.

ITs more like real life and depending on how you treat certain towns, that is how you are treated there.

I like that way better than having an overall good or bad karma.

Yeah fair enough in regards to karma. I must admit I like that they don't know what you have done elsewhere and mercenary's coming and trying to kill you if you steal things makes the karma system somewhat redundant anyway.

I don't exactly get your problem
this isn't oblivion
there are no minor skills
world doesn't level with you like in oblivion

what's so bad about leveling up?
you can even store the perk points if you want to save up for a perk with a required skill level higher than yours
don't see the problem

I get that you don't want to level, that's obvious
but why?
what is this major downside to leveling you keep implying?

No you are right mate. I think my problem is that I was trying to play it like Oblivion. Your first comment really hit the nail on the head. There are no minor skills. It does make me wonder though. Why would one pay for training at all?

So I guess really now all I would like to see is a hardcoe mode in the game. That way there would be a point to me finding a bed and eating and drinking. Hopefully some body with the ability will make a mod for it.
