Thoughts From A TES Virgin

Post » Fri May 11, 2012 2:21 am

Glad that you liked it.
To all newcomers to the TES series, i extend my fondest welcome to each and everyone of you :)

Playing an Elder Scrolls game is very unlike any RPGs you may have played before.
The game is not linear, and the whole atmosphere of the game is to really FEEL the world.
Don't rush into quests, try not to fast travel, slowly take in the sights and sounds of the world and you'll enjoy it even more.

Anyway It appears that you have the PC version, and that means you will have access to custom user created content mods.

A very plus point of the TES series, is that it is very mod friendly and some of the good mods can really make this game shine even brighter then it already is.
Might be abit technical sometimes when installing them tho, but if they all work well, you will enjoy a vision of Skyrim far beyond what bethesda originally envisioned.

Once again, welcome to the big TES family :celebration:

Yeah, don't take the negativity too seriously. People on this forum would complain about this game no matter what. If you enjoy it, that's all that matters.

I wanted to play at my own pace, my own time and without a bunch of people I have never met being in the world with me. I simply got tired of having to schedule raids and getting my head ripped off by some elitist jerk who thinks WoW is real.

Yep - that's what I love about single player games like TES (started with Oblivion myself, and played a little of Morrowind recently as well). You have a world around you that's NOT GOING TO GO ANYWHERE IF YOU WALK AWAY due to real life. I did play WoW for a few months when Cata came out, but before that was heavily into another MMO called PWI. While I loved getting to know guildies, my guildies would level up higher if I didn't come online for a week. Then I'd have to play catchup and be forced to do bounty hunt/raid quests with random, potentially fail squads. :banghead:

Always good to have new people get into this awesome universe. :foodndrink:

I shall eat the fish sticks and join the merriment!

Now to find me a noble yet dirty Viking...... :hubbahubba:

By the way Teechan I have this insane urge to scream your name like Capt. Kirk screams Khan's name in the Star Trek movie.

TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!

Ah much better.

You should play Morrowind GOTY...

But, be prepared to spend more time on your character's attribute and not being able to fast-travel.
And I know you will hate the "combat system" (a high Luck makes it much more pleasing) and Cliff Racers...

Morrowind is pretty divers and you will shurely love it.

Now this is an intelligent thread praising Skyrim. ^_^ Who's grumpy now?? ;)
I'm glad you liked the game, and as someone said it, after TES you will never be the same... :) This is almost too much. They're damn good at making games and that's that.
Oh my God yes the music!!!!!! I am a renaissance nerd and I love Celtic music so the sound track is just amazing to me. To be honest the music helps me get in the mood and then lost in the game.

Thank you for your awesome story as well! Sounds like you are right up there with the love like I am and the awe inspiring scenery isn't it just breath taking? I never realized how beautiful graphics could be coming from the colorful world of WoW.

I enjoyed reading your experience being an Oblivion player as well and I hope you continue to love the game. Everyone who has responded just solidifies why I love this community!
You think Skyrim music is good? Check this out, if you haven't already: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=oblivion+soundtrack&aq=f
I recommend getting to Oblivion if you can, when Skyrim becomes boring, after 500 hours or so... It's still not too old, and it's definitely one of the best RPG's in existence [and we know you love RPG]. ;)
Happy hunting!

Glad you're enjoying Skyrim. As other posters have said, Morrowind and Oblivion are both worth getting if you can find the game of the year editions. The Elder Scrolls games are different enough to warrant owning them all. Daggerfall and Arena were excellent as well, but may be difficult to find. I agree with you that WOW is not worth playing anymore, but that is more about the people who play it than the game itself. Skyrim has almost everything that an MMO has - except the pathetic losers who can only have fun by ruining the game for others.

And remember, you're only scratching the surface at the moment!

NOPE, NO SCRATCH THAT. CHEESE FOR NOONE. Which could be just as much a treat if you don't like cheese, couldn't it?

I am a Death Knight girl, Blood Elf to be exact :obliviongate:

I started a Druid Tauren a few months before I left it was cool my my heart belongs to the DK. That is actually my plan for Skyrim making a Death Knight-esk character.

I think I will get Oblivion, I have seen that Daggerfalls website before but you need DOS to run it =(

TES is the single player MMO.

And Skyrim has, in some opinions, perfected that thought. It really feels like Skyrim is alive and you can almost feel the economy actually working in this game.

:hugs: Thank you for the link! I love this kind of music, I will listen to this at work to get me through my day.

LOL yes Mr. Grumpy I tried to write it as constructive as possible. When I wrote it I thought about your reaction and started snicker :deal:

I am hooked on these games now and yes my love of RPG's is huge!

yeah i love exploring a new area in ES. i also love the new features unlike others as it feel like i have to relearnt the game again. i like this as it makes the experience more fresh. although i do miss the attributes from oblivion as it added more depth to the RPG side. it seems boring to me levelling up now. and frankly alot of the perks are lame iIMO. most just increase damage by X%. the world and the animation and NPC reactions are 1000x better than oblivion though. just wish it was a bit more optimized for PC. i get some horrible fps drops in cities despite have quite a high end pc. and what's with the shadows??? is there a reason shadows in oblivion looked alot better despite it being so old. even on ultra which causes a mass fps drop they look bad.

Or DOSBox, which is a Dos emulator. As long as you can maange basic text console commands, you can use DOSBox. There's also graphical front-ends, like DOG.
