When I started playing the game I was pleasantly surprised to find out that low level armors had lots of variation within the same armor type. For example, you could get a standard hide armor, another one with fur on the back and a conan-like shirtless one,all named "hide armor".As I leveled on to higher armors though,I noticed that the variation drops off.
It might be my idea because high level armors are not that easy to come by.Could someone confirm that high level armors like glass or ebony have variants?
Maybe a nice idea for a an Armor/Smithing Mod would be to have a random variant created every time you make, say steel armor.Maybe some minor randomness on stats too to make armor hunting relevant on higher levels.
Expanding on that you could have a lighter/medium/heavier type for each variant. It would still be classed as Heavy/Light armor but would differ in aesthetics (lighter variants have no shoulders) and stats (light armor is a little lighter but offers a little less protection). For example, during a quest I found some "light elven armor" that was exactly the same as "elven armor" minus the shoulders. So far it has been the only subtype that has a different name that I found.
