I can see combat getting very boring.

I think combat and varied types of enemies is the only problem with this game that will start bog the games content down in the long run. Sure there is an amazing amount of content, great quests and some amazing dungeons... But enemy types are certainly lacking, and the few that there are don't seem all that varied and what they do or how the act in battle. Take bandits for an example, every bandit fortress is filled with the EXACT same bandit types for the most part. The dungeons being varied and original is great but they feel a lot less epic given how frequently enemy types are recycled and I don't notice much of a difference fighting bandits compared to most other humanoid types. This game could really use a mod or patch that adds more interesting and varied enemies because the developers sure weren't up for it. Amazing world that does everything right except for what foes populate most of the dungeons; at least the ones I've visited. Makes me want to just focus on the main quest and guild quests to avoid getting bored of the combat element of the game before it's conclusion.

I've gotten tired of every game's combat if its long enough. By the end of the AC games i'm so tired of it i want to gouge my eyes out. DA2 did make me gouge one of my eyes out, M&B i don't even do combat anymore i just send in 50 knights to destroy whatever. Moral of the story, i don't care what game you're playing; if you spend even 1/3rd of the time Bethesda said this game can take then by god you should be sick of combat.

This is the fate with most games. There is a pattern to how combat works, once that pattern is understood it because a rinse and repeat game. Warriors block and then attack, shield bash and then power attack. Mages run and shoot.

Not necessarily. My Warrior went from Sword and Board opportunistic, to someone who doesn't even power attack and goes in for frenzied attacks.

Then there's the possibility of making dual wielding light armoured warrior statting heavy Stamina and using abilities like the wind shout for pure hack and slash with high percentage to proc crits.

Mages are probably the most versatile of all in regards to what spells you can use.

I've been playing one character for 36 hours and I'm still enjoying myself. I'll probably be able to play him for another 40 or so hours with no issue, and make at least another 5 or 6 unique builds with roughly the same time frame for each.

Yes but they certainly can do more to keep things interesting; adding in more varied enemy types and more diverse types of AI behavior. Hand crafting an amazing world with awesome quests and dungeons doesn't show it's full potential if half of it is filled with boring/recycled enemies. Though I kind of expected this even with the new engine. This has always been one of Bethesda's weaknesses, being lazy and unoriginal on the combat/enemy aspect of their open ended rpg's... Even the dragons, which are certainly cool, are all more or less the same. fly around, breath ice or fire, land, fly away. Meanwhile every bandit strong hold ends with a bandit chief and filled with all the same bandit types as the last 5 bandit strongholds...

-More diverse enemy types
-More diverse enemy AI/behavior

would go a long way in keeping this game interesting in the combat aspect for the long run. It's not the combat engine that svcks, it's the lack of variable enemies to keep combat interesting through the games content.

Even fighting master necromancers, etc do nothing differently than adept, apprentice and novice necromancers. all they do is spam ice spike and occasionally summon weak undead. only difference is they have more hp and do more damage but I don't notice them using any different skills. I would expect a master necromancer to be summoning tough undead and using higher level ice magic... This is the kinda nonsense that annoys me; it's so beyond lazy on the developers part.

What other huge, open world RPGs do you think does it better? Is it a case of lazy developers or developers that can only fit so much stuff into one game given a set period of time?

How would you diversify bandits? You have some using one handed weapons, some using 2 handed weapons, , some using magic, some using bows, some in heavy armor, some in light armor... I suppose there could be a better mix of magic and melee or bows and magic, but other than that, how do you diversify?

This is something with limited possibilities after all.I'm not bothered with this, but this got me curious.

Can anyone name a game of any genre and any platform with not repetitive combat?Just want to see it.

Just having different textured bandit with a different nametag doesn't make the game more varied. We already have warriors, arches and all kinds of mages. Not to mention the wildlife, strong bosses and ofcourse dragons.
It's about as varied as you can get in a game.
Yes, the combat system could have been worked out a bit better, but there is no game that doesn't get repetitive after playing even 50+ hours.

I am just using bandit's as an example since they are so common. But a lot of humanoid enemy types suffer from this... Like mages/necromancers "novice, apprentice, adept, master" all seemingly using the exact same spells. I don't have a problem with the combat system it self just the tediousness and repetitiveness of the opponents you face and the boring difficulty system that just makes enemies damage sinks that can kill you in 2-3 hits. The difficulty setting and enemy system in all of Bethesda's open rpg's has always been lackluster and lazy; sky rim is a bit better but I know they can do better if they wanted to!

-Improve the AI and how enemies respond, add more diverse behavior, gear and clothing variations, name variations, more unique boss(ish) type encounters or interesting encounters in general "there are some that have been well done but not enough of them", more enemy types in general. I realize combat isn't everything in Sly Rim but it's a huge portion of the game and if you're going to be investing 100+ hours there are certainly some improvements to enemies and difficulty that could keep the game more fresh and exciting; rather then going to hunt down my 10th bandit chief.

i started my character off as a two handed warrior...then mage....then two handed assassin for the dark brotherhood now im sniping with a legendary ebony bow and arrows. i like my bows and arrows in combat now...especially with the perk that slows down time.

I was def getting tired of swing my swords around but i still keep them for close combat. ebony armor/weapons FTW!

Nothing, i repeat, nothing gets old when silent sniping guys and 1 shotting them to watch their body ragdoll and fly off balcony's or ship masts or any of it. I love it. and then i go up to check where i hit them with the arrow. Yep, love it.
