Brink. when brink was first announced they made it seem like you could make massive amounts of choices, that you could do like 15 UNIQUE objectives in each mission... it seemed like the best thing since sliced bread. Dishonored seems to be going that way too, and it worries me.

The market is saturated with first person action games, whatever detail Dishonored does to identify itself you have to expect marketing will exaggerate it just to carve out a space... especially for a new IP.

The Arkane devs are giving tons of specifics though, and both Harvey Smith and Raf Colantonio have a history of making similar games...unlike Splash Damage, who had really just been iterating on Enemy Territory games for a decade.

Unfortunately, a lot of people (even on this board) aren't reading things like "it has tons of player freedom" in context, and seem to think it's some crazy, open-world game where you can literally do anything. Hopefully once we see some footage people will get a better understanding of what it actually is, rather than hyping up things it doesn't even claim to do.

I certainly expected an open world game too until I watched some of the video interviews, at least something with dialogue. Now I simply see it as something with the scope of Thief, with bit of Dark Messiah combat, some support "spells" and some shooting... you know... for shooting sake.
