Thoughts on what I've read and seen so far

Yes, I'm tired of cliche boss fights that just involve you hitting the boss over and over again. Although, I heard that Deus Ex (HR) had horrible outsourced boss fights.

Yup it messed it up so much. But if you had the Typhoon Explosive System, it made them a cakewalk.

Yep, I hope Arkane doesn't do that. Dark Messiah had those super high health regular dudes like that Orc King.

Yes, I thought that the Orc King was a good boss fight. I did not enjoy the Pao Kai (the one you kill with the portcullis) or Giant Spider boss fights, however, and can't judge the final boss fight because my game glitched and prevented me from moving past the first stage of the boss fight. Oh well :(

What reason? The mechanical legs don't make sense to me at all.

They're just cool. I like them, but if you don't like them, that's fine. They will be staying in the game, as they were one of the first enemies announced, and a defining symbol of the game.

why not? if you're up high people can't get you that easily, then you have wider view range, then you got the bow to shoot at a distance? mayhap they just want it to look cool with the bow. or otherwise it makes sense too as it doesnt have recoil which may push you off balance. with the background, setting and timeline it also feels like a weapon (the bow and stilts) that was upgraded in a hurry catching up with sudden influx of new technologies . Then also you cover great distances with those stilts and you can walk over nearly any terrain, plus you don't need to construct expensive vehicles to sit in. All is required - stilts, man and terribly powerful upgraded bow. end result - economically devastating

Perhaps.

Still I think it looks clumsy. They are an easy target for firepower though. Taking cover is not really an option.

Bah, boss fights can go the way of the dodo in my opinion. In the case of Dishonored the "boss" is a high ranking target, say a democrat or a general. Simply put he is a man and like any man he will die very simply.

The challenge or "fight" lies in getting to the bugger. As the game progresses Corvo's infamy rises and his targets become ever higher ranking members of society, their paranoia and fear will grow with their rank, then comes wealth and power with more security in hand. This is where Dishonored's difficulty and skill increase comes into play. I personally can't bloody wait till we get to see the story unfold like some kind of biopsy, removing the decaying parts of a corrupt government body by body and finally see the truth of Corvo's betrayal pan out.

As a massive, Thief, Deus Ex and Arkane fan who yearly pimps out Arx Fatalis to everybody I know I can't wait for this game and may fall pray to well deserved hype.

Well to me it seems like the devs are really into this. So I'm expecting a very high quality game, with all the boasting they're doing. If it's anything like what I've seen/heard so far this very well could be one of the best games I'll ever play. The level of immersion sounds incredible, carpets muffling footsteps, being able to possess a rat and explore so much more by using small tunnels, etc etc.

Throw that in with an awesome looking city, badass powers, and some limited 'parkour' (climbing, jumping and mantling) this has the potential to be an epic game.

Traditional boss fights are kinda dated IMO. Contrived comes to mind.... which is why I liked the randomness of the mini-bosses (special infected) in L4D. They kept you on your toes because you didn't know when they would show up and complicate things, compounding the difficulty with the common infected. I wish more games innovate boss types like that. I'm so sick of predictably scripted, linear gameplay.

I forget where I saw it but I remember one of the either interviews or preview stories mentioning that the tallboys are, in the games story at least, meant to in some way fight the plague, and in the debut trailer they massacred the people to clear them out. So while they might not make sense in a military way keep in mind the bad guys aren't fighting a war, just enforcing marshal law, and in that context their position of height means power.
