What exactly is wrong with the PC interface?

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 11:35 pm

My major problem is that the mouse support for a lot of menus is kind of wonky, and that the y/n/enter confirmation system is bizarre. And that you can't set a left/right hand set to a single hotkey or favorite. You also, like oblivion, can't use 90-= for hotkeys for no particular reason.

IMO, the interface is subpar, but not gamebreaking.

I honestly don't get the massive issues everyone is having with the PC UI, either... it works great for me and I find it very easy to use and navigate. I mean, maybe I can see (sort of?) how some people wouldn't like it, but its just aggravating when people make it seem that its a "broken" system, because its not.

I don't understand the complaints either. Controlling the ui,with both mouse and keyboard reminds of Gothic 1&2.

so do you work for Bethesda or Steam?

Really? Because I don't overreact to a UI that, in my opinion, is not all that bad I must be working for one of the companies? Sorry, but I do not automatically jump onto a bandwagon just because it is the cool thing to do at the moment. If you want to see a busted UI for PC, go play Borderlands. Compared to that, Skyrim's UI is a godsend.

But, if I am going to be honest I might as well say that navigating the skills menu with the WASD keys is a bit of a nuisance, but that is the only gripe I can levy at it. Everything else is just peachy.

Yeah, I'm not sure why there's so much complaint about it, only thing I would have loved to have is a character portrait like in Oblivion. Other than that I really like it, it's clean, it's simple and works wonders!
Agree with this.

One of the great things of RPGs is that I can sometimes just gaze at my character and admire all the stuff that I'm wearing and how cool I'm looking. But also to get a quick overview of the stats and attributes of my char.

Now I have to go to my inventory and search through all my stuff to see the attributes of my active armor. If I want to know my armor rating, I have to manually sum up the armor ratings of the individual pieces (or did I miss something?). I vote for a "character screen" !

If you want to know your total armor rating, just hover the mouse over a piece of armor and look at the bottom of the screen. There is a stat that will tell you what your current rating is and then tell you if what you are going to select will make that rating go up or down.

People just need a reason to whine.

If my wife (who's never touched a PC game in her life, let alone a Bethesda game) can figure it out, I'm sure anyone can.

It's not the inability to figure it out.

It's the "click one thing, but the game selects another" and "click a menu option to have it exit the menu" and the "trying to navigate the perks constellations being annoying.. I said left, not up" and the quest journal being a vague pos that requires you to use the quest markers to make any use out of.

I can only bind 1-8 for quickslots, when I have dozens upon dozens of more keys.

I can't use mouse scroll to instantly switch weapons/spells without a pause in combat.

The inventory is more cumbersome than Dragon Age 2's, one of the worst RPGs ever made.

I liked dragon age 2, and had 0 issues with their UI. :P

The reason people call it a bad game has nothing to do with the interface.
