The Interface Isn't That Bad!

True - it isn't that bad. I actually don't mind the design of it, etc.

But its buggy, and doesn't always work how its supposed to (for PC players in particular) that in itself is pretty bad. Bugs are a very valid thing to complain about.

Soooo...wait a minute. First you say the menus are designed for WASD...but then go on to claim to use the mouse for the perks as a "workaround." Even under your own logic, the interface fails.

Second of all, UI mods or no UI mods, modders shouldn't have to fix what Bethesda's paid professionals [censored] up on.
Nono, my logic is very simple. The interface works. But it works better when you use different ways of navigation. Since I don't see Bethesda fixing up the UI for PCs in the near future (or ever), then a workaround is more useful than complaining into the Planes of Oblivion, right? :P

I know everyone expected Skyrim to be perfect in every single way, but it just isn't. So when professional paid developers create an amazing game with so many other amazing features, but mess up the UI for a system that has less than 10% of the market, I really wouldn't condemn them to Hircine's Hunting Grounds as prey. OKAY :D?

And if nobody ever voiced feedback about the parts of a product they didn't like, how would the developers ever know to do it differently the next time? If nobody had complained about Oblivion's scaling system, and had just silently used mods as a "workaround", would we still have that system in place for Skyrim?

I doubt anyone in the Oblivion modding scene (including mod users) could somehow miss the 'silent' overhauls like OOO, MMM, Fran's and FCOM :P. That is also a completely and utterly different topic, as people complained about Oblivion's UI too. UI is designed for consoles and controllers and it will continue being that way (excluding some game developers like Bioware (and that's excluding DA2)) until Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft's console branches explode (but not from Skyrim's destruction magic haha).
As I said before, there's a lovely difference between criticism and constructive criticism. :)

And as long as developers continue to ignore the PC in UI design, I feel that PC users should continue to speak up. Hopefully someone will eventually listen. Silent acquiescence certainly won't get developers to take notice.

Yes the interface is great and very fluid. After using it since buying SKYRIM on release date the ui feels very natural and am having a fun time seeing how fast everything is. Also love its transparent background.

I'm sorry OP, but being one of the many PC gamers who supported Bethesda for many years and got them to where they are to day, I expect a lot better. In fact, I demand a lot better, and I feel completely justified in doing so considering how little effort they seemingly put in to porting this game.

I bet if you used WSAD instead of clicking, you'd find no problems :).

No. It will still be a pain.

The perks system is a pain.
You can assign 1-8 to certain actions. But you can not specify which hand. E.g. you can specify shortcut "1" to fireball. But you can't make it go to your offhand.
You can rebind functions of the UI to different keys. But that does not always work. Sometimes some old functions keep being bound to the old key. There is a mod that changes that. But still not fixed everywhere.
Try binding enter, tab or escape to a function. Everything becomes messed up.
You can't zoom on the map without a scroll wheel. And there is no way to rebind MouseWheelUp and MouseWheelDown. (I play with a trackball. No ScrollWheel. I am not gonna change that, been using that type of Trackball for 12 years now).
Can't sort my bags.
Can't sort my quests. There are no details about where I picked up a quest, what it was about, etc. Just "go fetch X".
Using map and detailed map isn't very fluid.

The biggest problem:
I can not swap weapons or abilities fluently during combat !
And that is a real strain on the enjoyment of combat.

Over the last few years, I've been playing WoW. Like many others in Skyrim's target audience. In WoW, the UI is so much more flexible. And you can use addons too. And macros. During combat, I use about 30-40 abilities on a regular basis. (Playing a rogue. In solo play, group play and during raids). It is fun to use them all. I could use them all via simple keybinds (including using a shift-key). Why can't we have something like that in Skyrim ? It would make combat so much more fluent. Just because console users will never be able to experience fluid controls, PC users are not allowed either ?

Other than the constant reminder that this is a console game ported to PC, the mere fact that the UI doesn't always work is a reason to consider the UI bad. Then you get to the fact that many obvious and decades old standard UI conventions are missing, or replaced by console style Fisher Price? My First UI elements, that all in all controlling the game on the PC is a wearisome chore. The UI should enhance and enable gameplay, not hinder it.
