Top 10 Reasons (imo) Skyrim is better than Morrowind & O

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 7:14 pm

I'm with the OP on this one.

This is by far the best TES gamer ever. Morrowind and Oblivion are essentially unplayable for me now because Skyrim improves on the games systems in every conceivable way and it's very difficult to go back now.

Morrowind and Skyrim are definitely my two favorites of the series.

Morrowind had an amazing world, as does Skyrim. While both games offer many, many quests, Skyrim introduces this through many randomized (though convincing), miscellaneous quests, where Morrowind's were all hand placed, though some were pretty drab. Also, Morrowind had many more guilds to join, many of which clashed with others. While Skyrim has some of this, it isn't nearly to the same extent. The gameplay obviously differs largely between the two, though I wouldn't quite say one is better than the other. Morrowind strives for more of a traditional rpg set in a first-person perspective. Where Skyrim wants to be more of an action game, though offering players much freedom in how they play the character. As an rpg, Morrowind wins hands down, compared to most games even. Skyrim certainly wins in the action department, though compared to other games of the sort, feels a bit lacking in it's melee.

What it comes down to is opinion. Both games are great, I feel. Though it all depends on what I want to play. Skyrim, when compared to Oblivion, basically only changed for the better. When compared to Morrowind, it is easy to see that the elder scrolls games have really changed. Some really like that, but others don't. As for me, Morrowind is still my favorite of the series, but what they did with Skyrim is pretty damn good in itself. While I am not the biggest fan of the perk system, it does work just fine, and it can be a lot of fun. Just my thoughts.

Thanks for actually posting your thoughts and not just writing "nope". I really did enjoy Morrowind and Oblivion when they came out. I agree that Skyrim is more of an Action RPG, which I do enjoy slightly more.

lol @ better than morrowind

Has the fantastic and unique world, story to EVERYTHING (even a random shack I found in the middle of the woods had a story to it!), AND the combat isn't totally useless and unresponsive as it was in Morrowind

Honestly, my biggest problem with Skyrim is the world. Not to say I don't like it; its great. But still, its hardly unique. Morrowind felt original, alien, I had never seen anything like it. Skyrim? The 13th Warrior, Conan, Game of Thrones........the list goes on and on.

I really want to see an Elder Scrolls VI: The Thalmor Dominion taking place in the Summerset Isles, and, if possible, Valenwood. The Isles have a lot of potential.

No flipping way! You only had 8 choices. I can favorite my attire now, or different amulets, or potions, whatever I like. It is so much more friendly to the player and the game. Vastly superior to the old Hotkey thing.

You know that along with the favorites(at least on PC) you still have hotkeys right?

I think every quote that paints Morrowind in a positive light should have to be posted over and over until it gets a single 'hit'(quote).

Skyrim is easily my favourite in the series, in terms of immersion, scope, quests, music, art style, everything. Absolutely superb, even with it's few small flaws.

Morrowind is a good game, was no doubt groundbreaking at the time but to me is nothing overly special. Agree with the comment that the elitist Morrowind players are as bad as FF7 elitists, another hugely overrated game.

The fact Skyrim is doing amazing critically AND commercially says it all really, 2 of my mates not normally into RPGs love Skyrim and say it's the most freedom they've ever had in a game. Everything I hear everywhere is positive til you get knobs on here whining about irrelevant drivel.

Biggest differences I've seen so far in the series that impressed me was

Large attention to detail in even seeminly meaningless evirons that make you feel like the gameworld is fluent and alive everywhere.

The huge improvement in hirelings:

- improved AI
- personality (voiced interaction, combat styles etc.)
- taking orders (a good start that can hopefully be expanded on with mods)

The UI is crisp, doesn't block gameplay, has graphic display for items and is easy to navigate.

None of these things could be said for prior (unmodded) TES games imo.

Combat still feels like Oblivion, but then I have been doing the same combat as I did in Oblivion.
