She isn't. She came for Othor, stayed for the atmosphere.

Is the website safe? I want to see myself for the lulz.

Yes, I believe it is safe but still be cautious. You never know what lurks anywhere :bolt:

Apparently, I had a six change and a crapton of plastic surgery, because I'm at least five different women over there.

Why American high schools?
Have you met any American high school teachers recently? A good number of them look, act, and sound undead.

These guys did the same thing with Oblivion. Last I remember, they gave everyone the brush off when asked about it or something. There was a big thing about it in the Oblivion board, as I recall.

I do remember that their crawler was still up and running in November, I haven't checked it lately though. If their crawler can be anolyzed, it may be possible to stop it.

Damn, just gave it away. Hi guys, nothing to see here >_>

Anyways, if it obeys the robots.txt rules, it should be possible to exclude any search engines (or crawlers for that matter) that are not say Google or Yahoo or, dare I say it, Bing.

If that won't work, we could always block their range of allocated IP addresses granted to them by their gracious host >.>

I would think that almost every game forum has a clone. Not just games, as well.

In theory

But that's not really the point here. They're taking the content and calling it their own. Sounds illegal to me, but I'm no law expert or anything.

However, it could probably be stopped as I discussed. Also, their scraqer for our forums appears to run on a 1 - 3 month cycle. I remember noticing that about 6 months ago or so.

Edit:

I've got the whois information if anyone wants it. It's apparently registered in China.

Edit 2:

Looks like tracking it down may be a bit trickier. The traceroute leads me to an unused domain name that doesn't even redirect. It was registered in 2002 and it's not being used at all. The domain name it lead me to seems to have no relation, it's name is that of an OS (not going to mention the specific one just in case, though it can be found if you want).

That one also leads me to Peru instead of China. Looks like they're hiding behind multiple levels here. This is going to be one tough nut to crack, methinks...

Edit 3:

Things just got a lot weirder. It shares the same IP as a sub-domain of the site I mentioned in "Edit 2". The sub-domain traces to Georgia, not Peru as the main domain. Maybe I'll make sense of this :\

Well, if anyone wants the complete information just give a holler. I'm not sure how much of this I can make sense of on my own...

That's odd. IIRC, Gamefallout was just a domain hosted by GoDaddy. Methinks they're getting smarter.

They don't obey robots.txt http://www.gamesas.com/robots.txt. This is why Google and the like don't cache anything [recent] from these forums

They're still hosted by GoDaddy but it's all over the place. The Chinese reference looks very shady and appears to be a one man organization run out of the house, from the looks of the contact information. Haven't dug around on the Chinese company, however. I'll get right on it as soon as I settle down for the night.

Gotcha. Looks like a range block would be one of the only options, then.

Well, I just started digging around on the name on the whois data. It's interesting, to say the least.

I did a search for the email address but left off the extension, and I pulled up a Twitter feed. Interestingly, the earliest post on it dates from November 8th and the domain was registered on the 11th. On December 7th, it started to post in Chinese. All of the posts on there, from November 8th until now, are all videos on YouTube from the looks of it. It hasn't posted since January 1st. Also, it seems to take 2 week breaks every week and a half or so.

Will update this post as I go tunneling, but I felt I should share this stuff as I find it.

Edit:

If I treat the stuff before the "@" in the email address as a domain, the whois information also routes me to China but to a completely different name. However, the information it brought up was not well formed. All the data was in lower case whereas the one from gamesas.com was in the correct case.

Wait, I just noticed that it looks like a dummy. The phone number is the repetition of the same 2 digits over and over again.

gamesas.com has a proper phone number attached to it, however.

Edit 2:

Doing a basic search for the email address before the "@" sign listed in the whois of the email I treated as a domain, I get a bunch of sites having to do with half of that name when the original email address had nothing to do with it.

Definitely looks like a fly by night operation here.

Edit 3:

Finally got something that makes more sense. Throwing that domain into a traceroute gave me an IP address that is assigned to an ISP for the Asia-Pacific region. Looks like this one is a more legitimate business, too. Not sure what it means exactly, but it at least makes more sense than the other stuff I'd been getting

Not sure how much else I can pull up at this point, though. I've got the information all saved, just in case. :P
