Honestly, I'm interested in it half (well, more then half) because of the cartoon itself, and because of the feelings it has brought out in people.
The show has, incidentally, made it cool / popular to be nice to other people, to have a happy / optimistic outlook, and to forgive the transgressions of others. It reminds us / the male demographic that compassion and friendship are important and should, in an ideal world, be the default instead of cynicism and distrust. The show reminds us that being a "male" does not have to consist of Tim Allen grunts, but can also consist of being civil and working with, rather then against, other people. Perhaps it is rather idealistic of me, but I see MLP as a force for good in the world.
And that is why I'm a brony.
