Should I become a Pony?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 8:18 pm

It's very temping, given all the forum hype and the magic friendship promise.

What is you guys' opinion on this? What are the benefits and the disadvantages?

Advantage: run really fast

Disadvantage: No opposable thumbs

I suggest being a brony instead of a pony. Bronies keep their opposable thumbs.

There are no benefits or disadvantages. Either you like the cartoon or not, same as any other form of entertainment which one can become a fan of.

Bronies keep their opposable thumbs.

Well most do, barring some sort of mishap.

Honestly, I'm interested in it half (well, more then half) because of the cartoon itself, and because of the feelings it has brought out in people.

The show has, incidentally, made it cool / popular to be nice to other people, to have a happy / optimistic outlook, and to forgive the transgressions of others. It reminds us / the male demographic that compassion and friendship are important and should, in an ideal world, be the default instead of cynicism and distrust. The show reminds us that being a "male" does not have to consist of Tim Allen grunts, but can also consist of being civil and working with, rather then against, other people. Perhaps it is rather idealistic of me, but I see MLP as a force for good in the world.

And that is why I'm a brony.

I've never seen the show and I already felt that way about all of those points. If you need a cartoon to tell you it's cool to be nice to people, then are you being nice out of genuine compassion or some other reason?

Guys, it's Skyr;m...

I'll admit it, though: he is entertaining if you're in on the joke.

What? This guy on the Internet told me he would do it for $50 and a pack Trident Layers gum. It was totally legit too, sent me a picture of his degree (unfortunately, due to sun exposure, the writing on the degree was no longer legible) and a before/after picture he created using advanced Microsoft Paint imaging skills.

I didn't go for it, though, I like my opposable thumbs too much.

I'm a fairly optimistic person and I did give MLP a go but I simply didn't find it entertaining. I'd recommend actually watching a few episodes and deciding whether you can actually stomach it. You can't just decide to become a fan of a show that you can't stand watching, no matter how much forum hype it has.

Dafuqisthis

Does it really take this much commitment just to become a fan of a show. :/

Is you actually want to be a pony... Sure why not?

Could be that people who are already genuinely compassionate love this show because it exemplifies what they already hold true to themselves. The internet could use more of it. But you don't have to be a fan to feel or show compassion

Not true, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongolian_horse Though unlike the ponies referred to here they weren't kind and compassionate, but spread death and destruction across Eurasia.

Actually they're not ponies but small horses, but whatever...
