Calm down, give it a chance.

I applaud your post.

I just hope this TESO will try something new instead of re-using the same old materials we've seen in MMOs in the past years.
A return to the roots, like in Ultima Online would be preferable. An MMO where you can progress in the world as a lumberjack, fisherman, animal tamer not just some damn warrior.

I agree. With Guild Wars 2 coming out, another generic MMO, while it might do well somewhat (most of them do sell decently depending on what they're about and TES has a pretty big fan base, though that's for single player games) if it's another EQ or WoW clone I won't have as much fun with it as I could. There needs to be some sort of originality outside of the premise and lore of the game.

I played the Guild Wars 2 beta recently, and in many ways it feels very refreshing compared to most MMOs in recent years. I trust TESO will be even better, though.

Well they've been working on it for several years already though, so I have a bad feeling that it's going to be more traditional than I would want it to be.

I hope ZOS follows in Arenanets footsteps with bringing something different to the MMO genre. They're doing a lot of things right with Guild Wars 2. Specifically the combat. It's addicting and much more skill based as opposed to standing still doing the same thing all the time. Getting rid of the 'holy trinity'-(Tank,Healer,DPS)-is fantastic as well.
Yes there are some of the same MMO conventions in GW2 that are in other games, but I wouldn't label it 'another generic MMO'.
Hopefully ZOS will be encouraged by Anets example that you don't have to make a WoW clone to be sucessful.

Excellent to the point and informative thread MojoRisin. Thanks :foodndrink:

Really interested in seeing what kind of masterpiece ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE will be. This could be what the single player franchise is for detailed pen and paper roleplaying come to video screen life but in the online realm.

I'm excited about this for one reason, I wonder if they show other provinces. But I am very very very upset. I just never dreamed the day TES would be put into a MMO form. If this is Tamriel does that mean they will show other provinces like Black Marsh? if so then what happens to single player TES?!

This feels like... ugh, maybe in a few days after I finish being upset about it :|

Thanks for patting my back. I wrote it in a moment of frustration, really, but as long as it does some good I am happy.

Concerning MMOs; I would love for this MMO to include some version of the traditional TES combat where you actually swing your sword by clicking the mouse button (or even by using Kinect, hehe). Simply pressing buttons in your skillbar might feel a tad stiff for this game. I think TERA, for all of its humongous flaws, allows you to do both?

Uhm...I'm concerned. Although for a lot of time I've wanted to hook to a nice MMO, and this could be my chance...

Although I don't know how they'll handle other provinces (IF they make it "multi-province"), especially those ones that have never appeared in any TES game (well, maybe Arena, but I mean detailed). Wouldn't it be a bit of "spoiling" them? And wouldn't it be a waste for the future of the SP series?

It's sickening hearing everyone hate on the game before we've even seen any info, tbh.
  • It's not developed by BGS, so you do not have to call them sell-outs.
  • It's developed by reputable people with lots of online development experience.
  • It's set a thousand years before the events of earlier games, which is probably because ( a ) it would restrict them too much by setting it in a time frame where we all knew what was going on already and had our own perceptions of what the world should be like, and ( b ) they might want to disconnect the plot and events of TESO (You heard it here first, folks) from the single-player games. Because of this, you need not worry about your precious lore, nor of the efforts of your characters.
  • If you're not a fan of MMOs; either don't play it and don't worry about it - or try it out and see what it's like when it does release.
  • There's nothing wrong with the concept of MMOs - a lot of them just happen to have some serious design flaws. Bethesda Softworks CARE about the TES franchise an do not want to see it spoiled. I'm sure they even have Todd Howard as some sort of helping little elf popping in and out of the office to make sure everything is concise with TES philosophy.
  • In short: don't worry, don't bash - just wait and see.
/Rant

^ Right on the money, these people keep on bothering BGS but for the love of god, it is not even out! I think it sounds pretty neat, but like I said on the other forum I just do not think it will handle too much. I think that if three or more people shout at once (don't get me wrong, it will be intense) it will surely crash...
