Ok Is It The Devs Fault or GPU Drivers Fault?

i used a texture fix and it kinda got the textures to work normally but i can still clearly see texture poping in certain areas, now i was just wondering should i be looking for a PC patch from the DEVS? or wait a for driver update from AMD?

Well ATI has always had an issue with OpenGL, and bethesda likes to use opengl for some random [censored]in reason. brink had the same exact issues as rage.

ATI's fault for putting out the wrong drivers. Bethesda's fault for deciding to not care about PCs and putting out a [censored] looking console port. Id's mistake for using megatextures, it looks like the technology is unfeasable at the moment, but it was a good idea.

I'm a bit annoyed Carmack hasn't commented yet, but I can only guess Bethesda ordered him not to say anything while they deal with it in some underhanded manner. If I was John Carmack right now, I'd get on a blog and explain what happened. I'm not sure a lot of the people here would understand, but I certainly would if he explained that they messed it up and should've started with PC.

I don't mind having paid 60$ for it and not being able to play it, I'm sure I'll be able to play it soon, and I still OWN the game (sort of, it's on Steam). It's not a huge deal to me. It pains me a bit that I paid for it with a kind of "man, got to support id" mentality, and it turns out the game is broken, I'm a bit disappointed in that regard, but I smell Bethesda all over this fiasco. I do NOT support console game companies (yes, I am like that, I wish they never existed), and I feel I was led to believe id would put out a good PC game.

Trust me it would have been waaaaay worse if they had stuck with EA before Bethesda took it over.

EA would have screwed this game even more and added that stupid 5 activation DRM crap. Plus the game would have become an Origin exclusive and never been put on the significantly better Steamworks system

Hey I love pc gaming as much as the next guy but how dare you belittle console game devs. If it weren't for consoles, pc gaming would be in a much worse state than it is now. They keep the industry going. Keep it relevant. Keep it profitable.

How so? Games were just as good if not better before Xbox360/PS3 came along. Id has always, ALWAYS taken full advantage of the hardware available at the release of their games. Now, because everyone is motivated by money, everyone designs their games for outdated hardware. Meanwhile ATI and NVIDIA sell us hardware from the future which is useless because the games use like 20% of it and still run like crap (Rage being the prime example of that). Not good enough, people. But this isn't really the place to bash consoles. I think id is a company that has gotten pretty lost in the sea of developers that are just as good or better nowadays, and didn't know exactly what to do with this one.

John Carmack should call it a day and start a new company where he can focus on the tech and bringing it to the edge, which I KNOW he wants to do. It's not like he needs more money. Romero managed to get fired from id ages ago, and hasn't had a proper game company in ages, and he's doing just fine with his millions of dollars. Carmack could just say "right, [censored] this [censored]" and go on to make something amazing, and hopefully he will figure this out. Bethesda/Activision/EA/THQ etc are no the place for visionaries, they're only a place for money grabbing demagogues. Id pretty much hasn't existed for a long time. Id is not John Carmack, id was John Carmack, John Romero, Adrian Carmack and maybe Tom Hall, plus the amazing game developers of the golden age. This is not id, this is Bethesda + Carmack being pushed around most likely.

There were some driver issues but the most obvious and prevalent issues were with the game/engine itself. It was treating the PC like a console and loading textures as you encountered them rather than caching most textures into the VRAM at the ACTUAL DAMN LOADING SCREEN. Which is stupid. If they had spent even a month optimizing the game for the PC it wouldn't have been a problem. But I think it's pretty obvious that they didn't spend a single day combined between PC optimization and QA testing.

Last time I ever buy anything developed OR published by Bethesda again. They think it's acceptable to rush release dates and disregard even the most basic PC optimization.

Here's my thought on this whole situation, and again this is just my opinion. However I put this squarely on the game developers. Why? Because if you are going to put out a game, on a new engine, you should make sure it will run reasonably well on the current and standard hardware. And ATI is widely enough used to be considered standard. Likewise, if they had these same problems with a previous game, and then released a game months afterwards and STILL have the same issues with the new game. Finally, if your going to port the game from a console, at least make sure it's done right. To me that's just sloppy work.

iD software likes to use OpenGL. Brink was done by splash damage which used the last iD game engine which they always do because they used to "work for iD" more or less.

It is the fault of those to whom you paid 60 dollars to play a game that doesn't work properly.
Fortunately, i live in europe and have of course canceled my pre-order. I hope for you that they admit the bugs in a statement and fix them quickly.
