Hey I love pc gaming as much as the next guy but how dare you belittle console game devs. If it weren't for consoles, pc gaming would be in a much worse state than it is now. They keep the industry going. Keep it relevant. Keep it profitable.
How so? Games were just as good if not better before Xbox360/PS3 came along. Id has always, ALWAYS taken full advantage of the hardware available at the release of their games. Now, because everyone is motivated by money, everyone designs their games for outdated hardware. Meanwhile ATI and NVIDIA sell us hardware from the future which is useless because the games use like 20% of it and still run like crap (Rage being the prime example of that). Not good enough, people. But this isn't really the place to bash consoles. I think id is a company that has gotten pretty lost in the sea of developers that are just as good or better nowadays, and didn't know exactly what to do with this one.
John Carmack should call it a day and start a new company where he can focus on the tech and bringing it to the edge, which I KNOW he wants to do. It's not like he needs more money. Romero managed to get fired from id ages ago, and hasn't had a proper game company in ages, and he's doing just fine with his millions of dollars. Carmack could just say "right, [censored] this [censored]" and go on to make something amazing, and hopefully he will figure this out. Bethesda/Activision/EA/THQ etc are no the place for visionaries, they're only a place for money grabbing demagogues. Id pretty much hasn't existed for a long time. Id is not John Carmack, id was John Carmack, John Romero, Adrian Carmack and maybe Tom Hall, plus the amazing game developers of the golden age. This is not id, this is Bethesda + Carmack being pushed around most likely.
