A fishlined MMO or the balls to do the avantgarde type?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 8:06 am

A little reflection:

Everytime there is something new that makes them the best MMO ever made.
Every time i bite the hook and get trapped in the fishlined net of the MMO games
DIfferent companies, new games, same old story. New graphic, new spells, new worlds, new
things to learn; but the world seems to be much of the same and why?

The MMO market, as i see it, follows the same fishlined, the same formalistic and classical
way. Though there are new ingredients, there is no MMO yet (as i at least know of, only the first ofc)
that tries to break the form and give us something completely new, something not like an traditional MMO.

What am i speaking of? Well, i want the avantgarde type of MMO. Think of something that makes
you feel like this: "Why, this IS something new! This is just plain crazy. How am i supposed to do this?
By the gods of! i can't even move the right way? How do i sell this, WHAT, i can't sell! But why am i
dead and at the same time not dead? Why can't i die from falling down a cliff? Why is the water purple!
Why is everyone around me looking like the grim reaper while flowers are floating on little white candy canes?"

Now, that is an Avantgarde of MMO's and if "The Elder Scrolls online" is something like that, well, i'll take my hat of
and say well done, well done going away from what the crispy bill tells you to do. Well done for following the
passion, even if the road ahead is so crazy and not even remotely understandable. Like a monthy python
quest for the MMO game that should have been made oh so long long long ago!

Thanks for reading this crazy shait

It's called EVE Online. You'll also notice that despite it clearly being profitable to be so unique, 300k monthly subscribers is sweetrolls compared to WoW's 11 million. Hence the decision to discard staple TES gameplay mechanics, in favour of copy/pasting WoW's mechanics and adding a few small tweaks to the (heavily overused) formula. Blame mass consumerism?

Thats is one MMO i have not tried yet, glad to hear that there are some uniqueness out there:) Blame mass consumerism? Yeah,
absolutely, most of us are to lazy to make a stand. Don't get me wrong, we think about it all the time. It's hard not to follow the stream of tasty fishes
(or at least before you get the numbness in your mouth)

Im sorry to disappoint you, but if you are able to grab a copy of the leaked Gameinformer article.
The Elder Scrolls MMO looks, feels and plays EXACTLY like RIFT.

DO NOT GET YOUR HOPES UP.

It is basically the same as 99.99999% of all wannable WoW-killers.

never say never, but, hmmm, i think i unfortuantly have to agree with you.
Just by the looks of the screenshots, it looks quite boring.

He he, reminds me off how you sometimes can jugde a (c-d movie that is)
by it's covers. Not that i'm saying that this game will be in the low end of
MMO's, just that it's "just another flic you watch one time and then throw away"

Wow, I guess you have played The Elder Scrolls Online and you've played it after it is a complete product, congrats. You must be a lucky, so when do you rent out your time travel machine?
Really.

Its not hard to call that a typical sounding MMO given what was outlined in the leak. The TES paint might help a bit though.
