Do you plan on spending many perks on melee skills?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 12:06 am

After that choice the big one is whether you're going for dual wielding. I don't know what to think of it yet. You get 50% extra damage with duel wielding power attacks but it limits your options in combat.
If it ends up that Dragons and some creatures have an Armor Rating it will still be useful to take Mace perks.

I'm playing sword + shield, but I'm contemplating otherwise since I don't have enough perks for my build :(

I will probably spend 5 points in Melee maybe 6 but not the 11 or 12 other people seem to be taking
I want my sword to feel deadly.

Yes, my first character (in my sig and screenname) is known for his swift blade and swift lockpick. So the two handed tree is going to be used a lot especially for the charge attack; all focused for greatswords.

With a limited number of perks, and block, lockpick, heavy armor, being so much better then some of the crazier perks, i wont be using some of those perks.

Compare armor not weighing anything or slowing you down to a sprinting power attack. Maybe its just mean but half the time in oblivion those things didnt even work.

Kind of hard to take " this threat shouldnt even exist" as not a slight you know?

100s of posts on werewolves and you dont see people throwing out personal insults but I have an opinion on melee perks and I wanted to see if others thought the same thing and yet, here comes the slap down

Its down to the relative value you put on things
I don't see armour being weightless as having much value
Just lets you carry more junk out of dungeons
I have companions/ potions/spells for when I need to carry more stuff

Something that improves my combat ability may make the difference between winning or losing a fight

Going to be a heavy armor Dunmer spellsword so yes, I will be heavily investing into one-handed, at least maxing out Armsman and the dual-wielding branch. I'm not sure about weapon specialization but I'll probably get Fighting Stance and Savage Strike.

Since I will always have weapons or spells in hand at all times there will be no blocking for me. Blocking is for pansies.

Nope, I know my character will be honing his skills in the arcane arts, as such i will be going completely mage, no light armor, no weapons (staves and wands of course) some may say its not the best choice, but it's who i am at heart and its my choice. so 0 perks will be spent on the useless swinging of swords. The stone-skin boosting perk is sixy.. Alteration Tree- Mage Armor

It's not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of what works for your character. For a guy like mine speed is probably not going to be happening very much because it will benefit me more to focus on magicka than stamina, so it won't be much use for me to take Conditioning or Critical Charge since I probably won't have the stamina to make much use of them. If an enemy's starting to get too far away from me I'll hurl lightning at them or summon a critter to go after them.

True but my characters who care about speed will have been using light armour since the start of the game and the faster stamina regeneration for a light armour wearer looks good. If I play a heavy armour wearer they will be a slug it out toe to toe type.

Not necessarily. I still think complete negation of armor weight for heavy is too much but if you take a lot of stamina improvements and use the right enchantments and perks and weapons and such you can storm around the battlefield crushing pathetic weaklings beneath your heel like nobody's business. If you go light armor you'll be that much faster, though. There's plenty of options.

Just been looking at the perk trees that appeared in kutluz's thread and my Orsimer Artificier can completely ignore the Fists of Steel >Cushioned>Conditioning line since for me the 1st 2 seem weak and the 3rd just ok.

Although I'll be using a one-hander for most of the game (for the few times my magicka runs low or I simply don't wish to waste magicka on a nearly-dead foe) I do not plan on using ANY perks in one-handed. So far, all my planned perks are going towards destruction, alteration, restoration, enchantment, blacksmithing, and some conjuration and speechcraft.

Actually I am planning on spending very few perks on meele attack abilities but for different reasons then you mention.

I am planning on being a speedy Khajiit mage who attacks with his claws if necessary but who otherwise relies on sorcerey. I am hoping the Khajiit racial bonus "claw attack" can rival traditional meele weapons and possibly, with proper attribute buffs, be more powerful in combat then a equivalently powerful NPC's weapon attacks.

I plan on spending around 8 in 1H. I plan to be mainly defensive, and so want my attacks to matter when I do make them. However, I never used power attacks in OB, which is simply my play style, so do not think I will be picking them up in SR. Of course, I may make room if I find otherwise.

It is worth noting I think, that despite me focusing on Heavy Armour I will probably not be taking the 0 weight perk because running fast in HA is not a concern and it requires me taking 2, imo, useless perks before hand :P 3 perks is a lot for some movement.

I plan to dual-wield daggers with my thief/assassin, and will definitely be taking at least some of the 1-Handed skills... I won't be maxing it out or anything though -- my Thief skills will be much more important to my playstyle.
