USB Flash drive install

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 11:34 am

Nopes, but i'll give that a shot now :)

I'm in the midst of that right now as well. Let's hope for the best.

Edit: So people have reported that a flash drive install fixes this problem. I tried that earlier with no luck but it was on an existing file that already had the issue. So I cleared the flash drive and started a new game with it installed on the drive and it did nothing...

So I guess we can debunk this flash drive installation rumour. Though people have been reporting it works, maybe they just got lucky. That or they don't know what a low res texture looks like and were unable to properly identify any sort of issue either way.

Is it allowed? I though installing from USB was illegal?

I think I know what your getting at. You still need the game disk in your tray to play it. The xbox reads the disk for a second to confirm its legitimacy, then you play straight from the flash drive or hdd.

I'm pretty happy that this fix is pretty much confirmed, a 4gb isn't big enough so I'll have to drive to walmart...on like 4 hours of sleep.

Yeah, seriously Bethesda needs a proper comment on this issue. Besides the very generic, "We'll look into it". It's really discouraging.

They sait it′s not an "Install to HD" issue and they are looking for more info to share with us.

Seriously don't waste your time or money. You're wishful thinking, I don't blame you I've tried everything under the sun to get the textures to load properly and nothing seems to work. The flash drive solution is simply just a rumour. Please save your money.

I just tried this myself and nothing happened. I tried with cleared cache, with and without the patch, saving all my data to a flash drive including game saves, tried saving game saves to the console, tried without disk, tried with disk. There's no solution on our end. Seems some people experience the problem right away where others don't experience it at all.

When I configured my USB drive on the Xbox it gave me a message about saving things to it causing crappy performance... is this just BS and it gives the warning no matter what kind of USB drive you're usuing?

Well, like I said yesterday, it's worked for me. It's worked for others. Will it work for everyone? Like I said yesterday, I honestly don't know. Apparently not. It is definitely worth trying it though. I'm not saying go and buy a USB memory stick to do so like I did but if someone already has one that they can use then it's definitely worth trying it.

It is a very strange issue though.

Yeah it really is. The lack of consistency is so strange.

It worked for me. Here's what I did, let's see if we can find any commonality.

1. I never installed to HDD
2. I cleared the system cache before installing to USB
2. I installed to USB before starting the game
3. I'm using a Sandisk Blade 16Gb and didn't get the "this device does not meet Xbox performance requirements" message you get with slow USB devices

After all the stuff going on I tried this myself last night. Did exactly the same as Puck (shows above), but.... as soon as I exited Helgen it went low res. so yeah:

Yeah it really is. The lack of consistency is so strange.

Uggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh

After playing another couple of hours suddenly the floor inside the dungeon looked really blurry and indistinct, and when I looked down to bring my hands into frame they looked like they were made from wax.....

So unfortunately my method only worked for a while.

I exited, cleared the cache and reloaded, exactly the same missing textures.

Not game breaking for me, I can live with it until the patch. Those drauger still give me the creeps!!

I've installed the game to a 16GB flash drive and no texture issues for me after 3-4 hours so far. I'm playing on an older model elite system.

I also installed the game to a 16gb Sandisk flash drive as the first install. I did not experience any really "low textures" (wax hands, etc), but the graphics in general are less than what I saw as previews on the 360. The graphics are merely average. I would say they are on par with Oblivion's. I am also experiencing the menu freeze intermittently. Those are my only two issues thus far. Be great if Beth could get it sorted out.
