cats, dogs, ponies

I've never had a cat, but I do like them. I am more of a dog person, but I'd like both.

I also get tired of people using them as substitutes for children.
This is, more often than not, a cat-person trait.

Have 3 cats and I love them dearly but I prefer dogs I think if I had to choose. I like that a dog requires more looking after and I hope to have a couple of huskys one day

Back in Kenya my family had a dog, a German Shepard. It died recently, so my siblings back home were pretty bummed. I'd like a pet, but with my marriage coming up and kids shortly after, I won't have the time.

I love my cat, she is very playful. Some cats aren't really playful they have complex personalities. She loves to play fetch with this old Sorry board game piece. She even comes when I call her.

My families always been more of a dog loving one.
I find my dog more comforting than any cat.
I've came across maybe 6 cats owned by family or friends and each cat is shy, defensive and just rather boring - no matter how often they see me.
Most dogs I've came across are confident and playful, even when I'm a stranger in their home - though some are defensive and shy but warm up a lot easier than cats do.

Only pet I probably wouldn't find affection in are snakes, lizards, and spiders.

i don't know that i would want an overly affectionate spider hanging around me

I'm sure it's known I have a heavy-handed dislike for cats, I find their affection to be purely selfish, it's not the type of pet I want, and conveniently, my wife is allergic to cats, so I won't have to worry about that. It's cool seeing some decent cats from afar, and going to friends house and watching how patient a few of their cats were when their kids were a few years old and carrying the poor cat around everywhere, and how the cat didn't claw their faces off. There are some cool cats, but the overall encompassing picture of a cat.. no, not for me.

There are indeed dogs like pugs who tend to nip at their owners heels everywhere they walk, and that can get extremely annoying, but I find a dogs' affection for their owners far more genuine, even if having one is like having a child, and even if they do dumb things. I like smaller family-oriented dogs, but also dogs who can be independent and are not all over you when you walk around the house, and not overly aggressive. I also cannot get a dog I must put outside. It sees you as it's pack, or family, I wish to reciprocate that view as I would not put a family member outside, particularly to sleep.

Pugs aren't dogs, they're mutant rats, just like Yorkshire terriers and such.

Cat's are slow to trust, they really make you earn their trust. They are hunter's by nature so I guess it kind of makes sense in a way.
