Really Grating Noise at Night

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 2:29 pm

I'm in absolute love of this game but something is making it almost unplayable for me. I first heard it, wierdly, isolated to a tree on the right hand side, as you cross the brdge coming from the first main village you go to. Now I hear it everywhere. When you out and about in the wilderness in the evening or early hours, there is a generic sound effect looping. I guess its supposed to be Skyrims equivalent of crickets.

The problem is its so high pitched it sounds incredibly grating, like fingernails down a chalkboard. When Im playing in the evening at home Im wearing headphones and its unbearable, I have to keep switching it to daytime, and its really breaking the immersion.

I'm hoping (probably vainly) that this is something they can look at, just turn the pitch down a bit, or decrease its volume vs the rest of the generic sound effects. I don't want to turn the effects volume down as that turns everything else in that area down too.

It seems such a small thing which is ruining this otherwise amazing experience.

EDIT: After having played a lot longer, I have only experienced this annoying sound at that tree, and when its dark in the wilds around Whiterun.

I had a wierd sound like that before, then found out it was a skeletons hand spazzing out while falling down the mountain side :spotted owl:

Yeah its definitely not anything like that, nor nirnroot, which has a nice twinkling sound. Its an environmental effect noise, which is even worse, because there's no hiding from it. I have some really nice 5.1 Turtle Beaches and the sound in the game is great, except for this, which is like Chinese torture.

Someone mentioned on another forum they sound like Cicada's.

I thought i stumbled upon some cool little place, i couldnt pin the source down. If its insects or environmental noise, thats fine, its nice to see the source though

Ive also heard this as well,It seemed to be coming from the first large tree on your right hand side passing the bridge from riverwood towards bleak falls barrow.
kinda like a consistent bug/bird noise? I heard it op,i had no clue what it was but so far that is the only place I have exp. it.

^ This. I kept hearing it too (not as clear, since I do not have headphones). I think it's the little glowing bugs at nighttime, the sound seems to increase as you get near em.

Thats true of the tree, but in the wilderness around Whiterun (where it seems upon further exploration is the only other place the sound kicks in) its a constant noise - it doesnt fade as you run around. The sound normally lasts for an hour (ingame time), and always late in the evening / early hours of the morning.

Mayhaps it is just a bug (game problem - not insect) then. Or it could be something to do with a quest.
