Its not about doing what the people want, but protecting them from things they can't effect. Its the president and his cabinet that decide if we go to war, not those serving.
There would be drastic implications if we just pulled out of Afghanistan and did nothing.

Not saying that I'm omniscient or anything, but most people don't understand what and why we are at war. All they see are people dying and lunatics ranting about how stupid our government is.
My brother is active duty in the marines, three of my close cousins are active duty air force, my dad is an army vet.

Its not that they want war. Actually, its the complete opposite.

Edit: I'd rather not start a flamewar, so this will most likely the last thing I'll say on the subject.

Most of the folks in the military I know don't fight for the government, but for the people. And if you have authority issues, its your problem, straighten up and act like a man.
I agree that our government isn't all that awesome, but it could be exponentially worse. Relatively speaking, we have it pretty damn good compared to most of the world.

If you're not willing to die for the people back home, I'd rather you not be defending them in the first place.
I wouldn't necessarily want to fight for the people here in the US because a lot of Americans do not care about anyone but themselves. I do not have authority problems, but when someone thinks he is better than me and sits there and yells at me for no reason I am going to punch him in the face to shut him up. There is nothing good about our government it is not what our Founding Fathers wanted.

Hey, if I can make games using the degree, then I'll be a happy camper. I have a multitude of ideas for possible games.
Game dev jobs are very difficult to get. They also typically work very long hours. I was interested in being a game dev at one point, but decided that it was too unstable and high-pressure. I have a fiend that's a developer for Wizards of the Coast. He likes it, but he doesn't have much of a life outiside of work.
