Pure Mages svck

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 8:16 pm

What the eff are you people talking about? Destruction is extremely overpowered.

i watched my friend play on her level 14 mage and all she uses in the ENTIRE GAME is the beginning flame spell and beginning heal spell.. and she kills EVERYTHING.

sure she has the arch mage robes and stuff but nothing in the game can kill her or even visibly damage her and her magicka never drains...

Shes so OP shes becomming bored with the game, how on earth can you call it underpowred?

I tend to think Damage over time spells, like Flame and Spark, are better than the Direct Damage spells like Fireball and Lightning. The only thing about DoT spells is they have crappy range and you can't increase the amount of DoT they do.(???)

I don't get why people say that melee skills also svck alone. They do not. At least not in comparison with destruction. Other day a cave bear was attacking my level 21 mage. I blasted him with dual-casted firebolts until I ran out of magicka. Barely below half hp. Reluctantly pulled out my blade of Winterhold, attacked him with a regular attack, and demolished the rest of his HP and sent him flying into the sea. I only have 21 skill in two-handed, with no perks, and never put any points into stamina, and I'm on regular difficulty. I have 56 skill in Destruction and most of the perks in that tree and have put most of my points into magicka. That, to me, demonstrates that melee is much more powerful than destruction magic.

The main issue is that magicka regens too slowly/ costs too much magicka really. Either they fix that or increase the amount of damage spells do.

The problem here is that you have to use what's basically an exploit to even have what looks like a normal high level experience.

People without those exact enchantments would have no chance to do those things, forcing people who want to use destruction to play a certain style.

It's not an exploit. If they didn't want the -magic cost enchantments to scale that way, they wouldn't scale that way. Get out of the MMO mindset where everything is normalized into obscurity.

Your using TGM..
Unlike other mages.. we need potions. On the console we can't toggle god mode like you.. to cast infinite spells..

That's not true. You could also go alchemist and craft +destruction damage and magicka potions to supplement your destruction spells.

that was a battlemage with 100% destruction reduction and still took 10 shots to kill the dragon. did you see the video the warrior 1 hit a dragon?

Actually, that sounds more like a problem with warriors than mages. Destruction needs a fix to its scaling, the debuffs that were made weapon poisons only need to be made castable again, and desktop status timers (how long I have left on my summons/conjured armor) need to be reinstated, but mages certainly don't need to be one-shotting dragons.

Then the question is, if shes the most powerfull creature in Tamriel at level 14 but wont be at level 30

...why on nirn would she ever want to level up again? Isnt leveling up supposed to make you stronger not weaker?

Congratulations, in the space of 2 posts you've managed to wrap your head around something that innumerable other posters on here simply can't grasp. Thank you for opening your ears and actually listening.

To me having 0 magicka cost for destruction spells while wearing armour seems like an exploit.

It's stupid that a mages best apparel is armor and not robes. It makes absolutely no sense at all. If I can have 0 magicka cost with armour, the robes +regen bonus is pointless, especially when it doesn't work in battle. Having like +300% magicka regen is no where near as good for a destruction mage apparently as wearing enchanted light/heavy armour... That's extremely [censored] and surely an imbalance in the game that needs to be fixed.

I think they really need to rebalance crafting.

also, you should learn how to use enchanting, it'll you help you

True, I personally believe all robes should come with an innate +spell effectiveness, strong enough to make it worthwhile to pick robes over armour.

Also, there should be +spell damage enchants, and there should be a much lower cap on +damage effectiveness on armours, the heavier they get.

Yeah, that would definitely give a reason to use robes over armor.

i like the archmage's robe and the thalmor robes, but they are already enchanted so i can't put my own enchants on them :|

Yeah, because a "free" spell means the same as "increased damage" right?

If you consider that your damage output is limited by your magica reserves, then, yes, it does mean the same. Not increased burst damage, but increased total output, which in some fights is a pretty significant statistic.

There are lots of plain blue/black robes in the game with no enchants. Try looking in peoples wardrobes.

I think the key is magic diversity. And I think some concern needs to be placed on survivability like armor and stuff
