can anyone reccomend a good set of earphones for someone with 70% hearing loss iin one ear/ (the left ear is fine, but my right ear is 70% deaf)
For starters at the lower price point nothing beats the Sony MDR-V6. You can also try Shure's SRH440 or Sennheiser Hd280, or senn 439. All can be found at or around 100usd. Best thing to do is go to a music instrument store, a place where you can buy monitoring equipment, and try them on to see what you like.
You will get WAY more bang for you buck if you do some research and void the Bose, Skullcandy, SOL, Beats propaganda.
I would avoid the gaming setups. All have really crappy sound, they try to impress by increasing bass but the separation isn't good and the midrange becomes muffled and the high frequency stuff clips off. Also many are couple through USB and suffer from static hissing. Not to mention that their durability is poor. An entry level set of studio monitors could last you more than a decade, whereas the turtle beach, triton etc are not likely going to last so long.
But perhaps more important for you would be to get a good amplifier. You might be able to find an affordable mixer that will allow you to independently adjust the L/R volumes. Or a decent amp that has a balance adjustment... Not sure how that might affect your echo location in game though.. I can definitely 'hear' which side things are happening on in Skyrim, but I'm not sure how mesing with the channel volume or balance would impair that for you..
