You do not have permission to post links yet.

Now, you have to ask yourself here: Am I really replying to death_souls response out of curiosity, or I'm I just getting another notch on my belt?

1 to go!!!
I don't know, are you? ;)

So, instead of creating a practical solution (like, I don't know, requesting approval to post links from a moderator), you're going to force new users like myself to post inane comments or get into mini flame wars just so we can start using the forum in a practical manner?
Getting into a flame war or spamming is against our Forum Rules. I hardly think we're forcing anyone to do anything of the kind. I think most people are able to find five things that interest them enough to participate in a discussion with - and it's not like every post needs to have a link in it.

Moderators don't at the moment have authority to to approve whether or not a member can post links. And as we're volunteers, I don't think forcing every new member to request advance permission to post a link would be any more efficient. (Chances are that by the time we got around to a request, that most members would already have hit those five posts long before then.)

If a new member simply has to have a link in their post, they can always send in a report and we'll be happy to look into helping out.

For the time being, this is simply the best compromise we've been able to work out.

If anyone has any other suggestions for a workable way to filter out Spambots and the like without unduly restricting constructive members of this forum, I think we'd welcome any new ideas.

Honestly your better off being cautious, and just leaving it, i was curious about it when i first joined, but if i want to join something im not paying for, and is being well moderated and not having every thread filled with bots its an insignificant inconveinience to put up with, if its something i dont like ill leave.

OP, you've a little longer to go. Your life doesn't depend on being able to post links in the forum? No? Then chill.

What if my philosophy on the value of life is based on the number of lolcat pictures I share? Then it very well could be that my life('s value) depends on being able to post links on forums!

In which case, all the more reason to let events take their course. :frog:

Ah, well, good arguments on everyone's behalf. My only problem with the rule is that I generally don't post on forums unless I have something important to say. I suppose it made feel a little trapped when I understood the requirements. I didn't want to go post 5 other things I didn't care about at the moment, I simply wanted to post what I wanted to in the first place.

So, I apologize if my comments above were a little sarcastic, because they were intentionally. I guess I was just frustrated that I felt prevented from using this resource, especially being new here. I'm not screaming for change or anything. Just something to consider.

Oh, and 1 to go!
