I'm not sure where the proper place to pose this question is, so please don't kill me if I goofed, :) but I keep getting the above error when trying to post. I haven't linked anything that I'm aware of, and the only tags I've tried to use are quote tags. Are quotes considered links for purposes of this rule?

I believe it's because of the forum rules. There have been a lot of users creating spam threads and inserting links that are not "safe" or are against the forum rules. Keep posting or PM a Mod and you should be able to post links. :)

Welcome to the forums

I guess it's because quotes includes a link to the quoted post.

Anyway, new members can't post links until they have been registered for 7 days AND they have made 5 posts. So you have to wait a while

In the mean time an alternative to directly quoting a post is to copy/paste the post in your reply, select the quoted text then click the "Quote" button in the reply editor. Since it doesn't link to the original post it should be fine. You just won't get the name associated with the quote.

That was a new rule to me. Perhaps an update for the forum rules is required. Thanks Freddo.

To the OP... http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1194390-introduce-yourself/ to the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/724862-forum-rules-and-general-information/!

They are working on an update.

The current forum rules thread is horribly outdated. :P

Test post. i deleted that then explained how to increase his mouse speed in skyrim. I did take a look at the rules and did not see that lol.

Intentional that a newbie can't even use the "Quote" button?? Why would anyone want to do that?

They put in a link restriction, for whatever reason. Letting people have links in quotes would totally defeat the purpose, since people who are posting problem links could just put them in quote tags instead.

Besides, I don't think the forum software differentiates quotes from the actual post, so making them only allowed when quoting someone is likely impossible.

We're still working on a few things (and updating the Forum Rules as well.) Badically we're trying to halt the immense flood of spambots since the forum update.

Is it possible to post links in reports to moderators even before the 7 days are over? I think if you report your own thread with the request of adding a few links (like a mod download location) that would be alright. We can edit your post to add it.

Obviously we can't do that for everyone who wants to post a link within the first seven days, but I think we can do it for simple mod release/WIP threads without that taking too much effort.

You must take them down very quickly then, because i've seen one during my time here.

Oh, this is very interesting. Do I have to create 5 topics, or do replies to existing topics count? I'd really like to be able to add links to my posts (since I'm asking lots of questions w/ referenced materials), and I've found this rule very frustrating thus far.

Maybe if just spam this topic with my remaining post "quota", all of my problems will be solved! -.-

You need to purchase five rubber chickens on consecutive days and send the proof of purchase to Bethesda who will then lose them. After this, you may make five posts in which you must not mention said purchase of comedy fowl.

Maybe if just spam this topic with my remaining post "quota", all of my problems will be solved! -.-

Er, don't do that otherwise the moderators may invoke an alternative solution to the problem...

Wait until you get the permission to post kinky links.

I'm a couple dozen post away from being able to post slinky kinky winky links.

Heh, yes there were a lot and we still get a few creeping in.

Not a good idea. :stare:

We realise that for the majority of members who join this restriction is inconvenient but it had to be done as a some of the material being ad-spammed was unsuitable and inappropriate for the forums, whilst we did get to them fairly quickly it was unacceptable to have it on the forums for any length of time.

So, instead of creating a practical solution (like, I don't know, requesting approval to post links from a moderator), you're going to force new users like myself to post inane comments or get into mini flame wars just so we can start using the forum in a practical manner?

That's just absurd. The rubber chicken post above makes more sense.

Not really. You can always be b7 or something if it's deemed that you're just spamming to make a post limit. Even if it's just a suspension, there are methods to prevent it.

Oh? What kind of "methods" do you speak?

Now, you have to ask yourself here: Am I really replying to death_souls response out of curiosity, or I'm I just getting another notch on my belt?

Methods such as not counting posts in Community Discussion. One forum I was on had a policy of only counting posts made in the actual game boards to discourage spamming to make the cut.

Also, you're most likely just trying to hit the count. It's easy to tell, especially when you keep counting down.

As I said, there are other methods. If the personnel were available, it's possible a review system could be implemented. However, that would require a huge amount of cooperation and is not very plausible.

I don't ask myself questions I already know the answers to ;)

Inane comments? It's a forum, so what about just responding normally to a topic (I assume that's why someone joins a forum)... not everything requires a link.
