Full immersion Virtual Reality only 20 years away?

I'm still waiting for the flying cars they said we would have by now.

It only costs $300,000.

I don't want this. Seem like there would be to many problems.

-Price. The Tech might be possible, but most people won't be able to afford it. Maybe even for more than a decade or so.
-Development. It seems that games today take very long to develop. Add in an extra dimension and thats much much more work. Not to mention the cost would be astronomical. These factors and more will lead to lack of games for it.
-Motion. This and gamers just do not mix. I doubt that the "casuals" will be willing to spend the astronomical amount for it.
-Gimmick. Thats pretty much the extent of it. IMO, its unnecessary. We can only see one viewpoint at a time, so having more just seem superfluous.

It just takes away everything I like about gaming.

A (relatively) cheap way to spend my freetime relaxing and still have fun.
You also need to keep in mind that this kind of technology isn't only useful when it comes to gaming and entertainment, but may prove to be a useful tool for the military and others who may be in need of simulation training.

I really hope we will be seeing something like this for the future, both for practical, and entertainment purposes.

will this lead to gamers getting PTSD from shooters?

No it'll be like the episode of American Dad where the kid got, PTWRSD, post traumatic war re-enactors stress syndrome.

Maybe this would be good if it made you feel the actual pain of being shot in FPS's, and stop the stupid multiplayer call of duty players who keep carrying on that its lifelike.

I dont like any of this. They already have info on you through your cell phone and internet browser, why would you let them in on your body itself?

I really, really, don't want to smell dead, bloated corpses or other vile smells while I'm playing a game. No....not at all. Thanks, but no thanks.

Sorry. I had one of those little lol moments.

I don't think that's very likely, but at the same time it isn't impossible. At one point in the technological advancement the virtual reality might be so realistic that we can't seperate the real world from the simulated one, and if enough senses are engaged during the simulation it wouldn't be unlikely that we would be experiencing similiar mental situations as those who've actually been in war.

I'm pretty sure it depends on wheter the shooter would be realistic or arcade'ish, and the fact if we should be able to feel physical pain or not during the simulation.

One thing I can already forsee with this kind of technology is an increase in deaths related to gaming. If a person believes something is real enough it can get their heart racing. That heart rate stays at or goes over 180 beats a minute for a long period of time you're looking at cardiac arrest. Can also have the possibility of a cerebral neural overload of sorts taking in too much information.

However, it would be pretty dang cool to have a new level of immersion for gaming. Sadly I can already see the military brass salivating at the thought of this putting their guys into a matrix world to train. All it costs them is power to run the machine since every bullet fired, every missile launched, and every death is all an illusion.

Well, of course you would. When does real technology ever not turn out exactly like science fiction predicted?

The more important question is, how many times will Total Recall be remade before this becomes a reality? Over or under bet on three times (we're at one remake so far)?

I don't care about the graphics, even if the virtual reality only looked like an older Call of Duty or something, I'd be glad to frag it out online.

Two things need to be done:Normandy and The Somme. Man there's going to be a LOT of raging there while us Krauts are just mowing people down in pillboxes ROFL!!!!

People will never want to play as Allies!

What's an "outside"?

Can't say it's something I'm that interested in, in the same boat as 3D movies boring and it'll never come to being hugely successful just a rip off. Besides why would I want my body to feel like my ingame characters, I dunno about you guys but with what I put my characters through I think I'd rather stay on the couch that in their shoes
