good shotgun for a 14 yr old?

Post » Sat Jul 28, 2012 8:57 am

For the record; I never hunt, but I've been shooting for a little over 10 years now. My dad and I have a very large collection these days.

That being said, Mossberg always makes a good product, and for your use, this will probably be fine. A low capacity weapon with a (relatively) low power cartridge is great for people your age.

Eh, he has a point. If someone isn't trained properly they can (and, more than likely, will) seriously injure someone.

Personally, for a pump shotgun, I prefer the Rem 870 for the simplicity of design and the large number of upgrades and aftermarket parts available. I'm pretty sure a 20ga version is available as well. Remmington makes their shotguns a little heavier than other comparable shotguns, but that's not always a bad thing. Either way, enjoy your gift and good hunting, Autumn's almost here.

Yeah i shoot my dads 12 gauge, but i cant handle the slugs

Which is perfectly reasonable. I was only able a couple years ago myself to become fully comfortable with the use of a 12 guage. Now I can use it consistently with no problem.

Eh, he has a point. If someone isn't trained properly they can (and, more than likely, will) seriously injure someone.

Which goes for anyone. If a kid that age is well trained and able to use it correctly with advlt supervision, then there is no reason not to.

Many advlts would be much more dangerous and inexperienced.

Another question is "Why is a 14 year old asking an internet gaming forum what shotgun he should get?"

You could always go to the local supermarket if you're hungry

Because I have seen this forum and it seems like a lot of the people here have experience with firearms.

Hahaha, guns being good for teenagers. Oh you so crazy. I don't even think they're good for advlts, but whatever. Guess people love bullets or something.

Why would guns not be good for teenagers? How else would one learn to be responsible with a gun? I shot my first gun before I was 10. You can go through gun safety training for your hunting license at 13.

If you call North-West Illinois "The South".

I, however, do live in the south and have never so much as held a gun. Take that, stereotypes!

Hunting, trap shooting, or simply to own one.

Everyone likes to talk about their hobbies, especially with a nice present coming up.

But naturally if you post in this forum you will get comments about kids and guns. That is entirely predictable. Don't get too mad about people posting such comments, just ignore them. Otherwise it will become a flame war.

Closed for now.

Sorry guys. we are never happy with gun threads and when it involves ownership by a 14 year old it isn't suitable for these forums. I will speak to the other mods and if they deem it acceptable it can be re-opened.
