Cannot play game at all

Post » Sat Jul 28, 2012 11:30 pm

Yup got that.
(.dll not .dl i assume that's just a typo on your part though)
Yes, it was a typo.

When you launched the game the first time, did it detect your settings? I think you said something about that, but if it detected your settings, you should have the "Rendererinfo.txt" file.

Are you the admin of your computer?

It said something like it has detected my settings, yeah. It then set the graphics settings to High after it said that. (two windows appeared one after another)
And yes I'm the admin =)

Have you tried a reinstall at all? Not telling you to do it just yet, just trying to get more information.

Also, where is Steam installed to?

Do you always launch the game by clicking "play" on Steam? What happens if you double click TESV.exe? (We must try everything, mustn't we?)

No I haven't done a reinstall yet.

And I have tried both launching it from Steam, and by clicking on SkyrimLauncher.exe. neither works

When I click TESV.exe i get the following message

The program can't start because X3DAudio1_7.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
Could this be the problem?

Ah, at last, a clue!

Yes it could be the problem. Take a look over there: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?x3daudio1_7 and keep us posted.

EDIT:

Never mind, seems your problem has been discovered, certainly a missing library file will stop the game, especially in your case since it's required for audio.

does it have to be put in a specific folder inside the Skyrim file? because I've downloaded it and the game still won't work =S (it comes up with the error message again even though the file is here)

thanks for the help so far

The windows system32 folder would be the best place for it for other programs to able to locate it if needed, you can probably just drop it in the skyrim folder where TESV.exe is located, though that would mean only Skyrim would be able to find it.

It's currently in the skyrim folder in steamapps/common, which is the same location as TESV.exe. Dunno why it's still saying the file is missing :S

I'm assuming you extracted it from the zip file?, there is a read me concerning any problems also
4. If the problem still occurs, try the following:

1. Press Start and select Run.
2. Type CMD and press Enter (or if you use Windows ME, type COMMAND).
3. Type regsvr32 "filename".dll and press Enter.

change "filename" to "X3DAudio1_7" without the quotes

The dll will need to be in the system32 folder.

Okay yeah it would seem to be a dx error - just downloaded LIMBO and that game won't launch either, it does the same thing in launching the game and immediately closing (though it has no launcher so the only way i tell this is because steam says I'm in-game briefly)

Downloading the newest version of Directx now, lets hope it works!
