Skyrim's grand unveiling trailer.. my god...

Post » Sat Aug 11, 2012 9:59 am

It's brilliant. I haven't seen the official trailer in ages and now that I did, it gave me the exact same feeling as it did the first time. Overpowering facemelting goosebumps...

Has anyone of you experienced the same? I really think it has been put together really well. I actually want to start a new character again, which I haven't done in quite a while.

If you're going to watch it right now, make sure to boost the volume, go fullscreen and close the curtains. (so no one can see you spasm)

i wouldnt exactly call it earth shattering, or get a fan boy [censored] over it, but it's all right. ive learned the hard way not to get over hyped by a youtube trailor, or a tv advertisment because of all the bugs, glitches, and unfinished programming in games now days. its disgusting to pay 60 bucks for a game that had very little Q+A, skyrim, and diablo 3 are the first two games that come to mind, for those thats been into rpgs like this for a lot longer, look at ultima 9. now that i know how terrible bethesda programming is, i just dont feel the same hype.

I'm wondering this as well because I'm not exactly sure what trailer you're speaking of.

I remember the live action trailer where villagers are running away while the Dragonborn stands there looking onward as a dragon lands. That was a pretty cool trailer.

I watched it again back in March and had exactly the same experience. It's a brilliant trailer.

Shh. They're immune to common sense or they would die. Complaining about things they secretly like is essential to the life of the Spotted Board Whiner.

well, no, not at all. i can still play the game, and i can still enjoy it, but that doesnt mean i get an e pe en over it. ive just learned with the way games are made now days, and what's released to the public, vs the trailors for the games themselves is a waste of time to get hyped up about.

You complain about the game being glitchy and terrible and receiving any sort of hype therefore being a way of setting yourself up for disappointment when you are burdened with playing this awful game. However, you are here on that awful game's forums talking about it, not typically something somebody that dislikes something will do.

Hype isn't really a bad thing, unless the developer REALLY fails to meet expectations and sets the bar high; Spore, for example, was a pretty decent game. The trailers, though, made it look like it would be GOTYAY. Then it was postponed about a thousand times while searching for a publisher, so it had extra time in development. By the time it was released, it was such old "news" the hype was dying, though still pretty much insurmountable for any game that could plausibly be released within the next ten years, and it turned out to have been made cartoony and "kid-ified" since the long gameplay trailers we had seen. As such, the game was bashed to pieces by the hype it had produced and is now mostly forgotten; I haven't heard someone mention it in a positive light in a looooong time.

On the other hand, Skyrim is a GREAT game. Maybe not GOTYAY, arguably not even GOTY material, but I nonetheless think it deserved the title when it got it. It may not be as gorgeously animated as the trailer, but the trailer gives you a realistic feel for the game and gets you hyped to play it, as opposed to setting expectations on play that it will never meet.

That amazing video never fails to excite. I had a dragon battle just last night that was very similar to the video. The first time the kill animation took hold though, she was off to the side of the dragon Vulthuryol and the animation started at the dragon's tail looking forward. boo! Couldn't see her. So she had the battle again and this time, she was more in front and jumped on his head and gave him what for. It was so fun...still feel that way. Thanks for the video link; I love the way the music builds too.

what i said was taken completely taken out of context. secondly i never said it was bad, (show me a direct quote of me saying that). its no "burden" to play the game, (quote me where i said that). again, never claimed to "dislike" the game. never said skyrim was not good, or "great".

im still not seeing where i claimed all these things, or how what i said about not getting hyped e pe en over trailors as opposed to the final released product means i dislike the game?

another fallacy of internet logic.

Spore is a decent game...if you stick to playing it a couple hours a week. Yeah, I agree that Skyrim is a great game...having played it, I think it surpassed its trailer in terms of gameplay.

You specifically called Beth programming "terrible," said it was "disgusting" to pay 60 bucks for the game (which isn't THAT much these days), compared it to Ultima 9, and implied it had such an excess of "bugs, glitches and unfinished programming" that enjoying the trailer would make you "over hyped."

yes, it is disgusting to pay 60 bucks for a game that is full of bugs, and glitches, and freezes. but you dont know that until you buy it. and that's when you see the design flaws in some of the coding that renders things either unplayable, quests being broken, or direct main story lines being rendered unplayable. anything released is a finished product, not what's patched in months later. this is what happened to alot of people, me on the other hand, i never encountered these types of things until after i downloaded the patches, except the souls: black and white fetch quest. even having one quest broken in a finished product, is a bad Q+A job. as for those who had the broken main story quest, the constant freezing before patching, and too some a game that was rendered completely unplayable because of release bugs, glitches, and freezes, no, i will not give the excuse, "well there's always problems on release", or, "they'll patch it in later".

i compared it to ultima 9 in the aspect of bugs, glitches, freezes, and crashes of a finished released product, (i want to make sure you're on the same page). never did i claim i didnt like the game, or thought that it was not good, nor did i state the game is a burden to play, im simply stating that excuses being given to developers about unfinished products, bad design, or a lack of Q+A is exactly why games are released the way they are. from the way capcom handles their DLC for street fighter x tekken, to how diablo 3 was handled, hyped up games, or trailors from big brand companies, and blockbuster games from these hybed up brand name companies have become since the 2000s, lower quality.

I get the most fired up when I watch the trailer with the "Mustard Jar" lyrics instead.
