Fantastic RPG, terrible terrible game

this literally doesn't make a shred of sense.

edit: wait, you're referring to Fallout New Vegas. which in that case...sounds about right.

Wut? What on Nirn makes Morrowind a bad game? Sure the mechanics are pretty archaic, but my GOTY edition was published in 2003... Name me any RPG from that era that didn't have hidden dice-rolls for combat?

except fall out newvegas was insanely good so much dialog and plotted out quest

fallout 4 is going to be like 590 steps backwards its gonna be like morrowind GOTY minus the GOTY

Yeah, I honestly don't have much hope for Fo4 seeing the way Bethesda is going with TES.

still sounds about right.

both F:NV and Morrowind would be consider laughable in regards to the actual game mechanics that dictate them when compared to today's standards. the drawn out and incessant dialogue from New Vegas made me actually decide not to finish it, and Morrowind had far too many archaic gameplay tropes withholding it from actually being largely enjoyable (although the satisfaction from leveling up was quite sufficient).

There's hidden dice rolls, then there's Morrowind. You can't possibly fail to realize there's a dice roll mechanic when you can repeatedly swing and miss at a target two feet away with a four foot greatsword
And when I refer to the game, I refer to its mechanics. In that respect, Morrowind was stunningly terrible.

I concur entirely.

as "original" as the atmosphere was in Morrowind, the actual game surrounding it was largely only enjoyable to a small margin (which is apparent when you compare the popularity of every other TES game). having a statistic dictate your movement speed, and dice roll mechanics determine if you hit the guy standing right in front of you in a primarily first-person video game are silly design choices.

That small margin being the small window of time that you're not smashing your face into the desk in frustration at how stupid the game mechanics were.
Dice roll mechanics, non-regenerating magic and obscenely stupid AI pathfinding being very high on the list of most frustrating things in the game.

It's the same principle as clicking to attack someone in a party-based RPG, and your attack missing. The only difference there is you get a "MISS" instead of "10" or whatever for damage.

What games from 2003 had a world anywhere near as large as Morrowind, and significantly better mechanics? I fear you're trying to compare it to the games we have now, or even Oblivion, and that's just not possible from a gameplay standpoint.

It's clunky, but every game back then was.
