What's the point of decapitations?

Post » Tue Sep 25, 2012 3:05 pm

Sure, they may LOOK grisly, but just like the kill moves from Rogue Warrior, can't I just find them on Youtube?

It seems that the only way decapitations actually affect the gameplay is by preventing those NPCs from being reanimated. Ok, sure, that also means that your enemies can't reanimate their own decapitated allies, but at the same time, the fact that you only have a CHANCE to decapitate your enemies, and the fact that necromancers are only an occasional enemy, mean that the decapitation only serves to hinder your ability to find dead thralls of your own.

Is there a point - an actual, tangible POINT - to decapitations that I'm not seeing?

Because I am not a necromancer, and I don't want the dead walking around Nirn. Their head on the floor only reassures their death.

Well, too bad for that! You've already got draugh literally LITTERING about half the dungeons in the game.

Because decapitations look extremely cool as a finishing move, in my opinion.

Then why make us spend a perk point?

Well the cutting off of the head I can see how you might not like that, but the rest of the perk, doing more damage with a standing power attack is what I really get that perk for. Didn't even notice that you can necro headless guys till my warrior started messing with it 80 or so hours into the game.

It gives you a boost to damage as well so it's not all about just slicing off heads

What we really need is more decapitations, like cutting off both guys arms and then shoving a sword through his chest, or cutting a woman in half at the waist. Want to be a necromancer? Don't take that perk.

I would have loved to be able to lop off both arms of some poor sod while dual wielding. Although double stabbing them through the chest works well too.

They provide an instant kill just like any other kill cam. Useful on tough bosses.

its the only sure fire way of knowing that issue has been resolved and it won't be coming back to bother me. at all... ever.

And nothing demoralizes and breaks down the bravery of the enemy then to see you march into the midst and decap their leader in one swing.

I can't be the only one rushing into a bandit or forsworn camp/fort whispering aloud "let the bodies hit the floor, let the bodies hit the floor... let the bodies hit the FLOORRRR!!!!!"

Decapitations just add an exclamation point to a kill. Sure, it has the same effect as simply stabbing an enemy and having them fall over dead, but it looks totally neat-o. I just wish that a perk wasn't required to get decapitations. As every perk point is precious, I have yet to pick it up. I got my fill of decapitations while playing Dragon Age.

Reminds me of the text for the "Bloody mess" perk from FO3/FONV.

With the Bloody Mess perk, characters and creatures you kill will often explode into a red, gut-ridden, eyeball-strewn paste. Fun! Oh, and you'll do 5% more damage with all weapons.

Yeah, you get a 5% damage boost, BUT you can make your enemies explode by PUNCHING THEM!

Rule of cool. Just pure http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RuleOfCool. Not all perks need to be primarily beneficial. Sometimes people WANT to do something cool over being powerful.

Ehh those feels so mediocre because you don't actively have a whack at the guy.

I think headshot in FO are much more satisfying. I remember the first time I pop one long range with that 50 cal sniper in FONV; that thing was so ridiculously powerful and clean; it just vaporize the guy's head in a pink mist while leaving his body intact and fall like a rock.

I don't like the synch-kill system in Skyrim. You don't actually chop someone's head off; the game does that. I would rather chop someone's head off or stab him in the face real-time

Make it so that enemies have a damage threshold that indicate their heads start to fall off, then if you deal critical damage or one-hit the rest of the health bar; then your next hit would either make the enemy fall and die in a cool way; or if you aim for the head it would chop the head off. So technically you can knock someone's head off with a warhammer like it's medieval polo and send it flying to the other guy.

Also, Skyrim's synch kill reminds me of the Mass Effect 3 Banshee that pull you in from a distance and squish your head. A couple time I though I dodge an attack, but ended up teleport right under the guy's hammer and got one-hit. Not game-breaking, but sometimes I was like "Da fuq..???"

Perhaps, but with Skyrim I don't think, "Ooh...decapitations are so cool! Must spend a perk just to have them!". It would be awesome if they happened regularly with the other kill moves.

I think it's mainly about the damage boost, but the flying cabeza is a nice bonus. 'And the braggart named Ragnar was boastful no moooooore.....' CHOP!!!

Agree... But like I said; kill moves are so cliche. It's basically just a clip of your character doing some cool poses. I would rather not have kill moves, and actively chopping heads off.

Most of skyrim's weapons feel like toys. Except the warhammer, though... They actually feel like they have weight on them... Just wind up and drop the hammer . And every time my character do a warhammer kill move, I was like "Hammertime MFer!!!"
