the shield doesnt disappear so be happy with that. its more realistic to carry your shield that way you're ready for battle, a shield on your back would be tied and that charging bandit won't wait for you to untie it and slip your arm through the grips

if you want your 1h sword and shield on your back go play zelda :P

Yes, I completely agree. I play as a Shield and Sword Character and it bothers me when I unequip my shield and it suddenly disappears. What Skyrim needs are some aesthetic changes to the 3rd Person model.

As long as you could also toggle them off, for those of us who really don't enjoy the "covered-in-bags-and-sheathes" hobo look. (already have to keep going into inventory to unequip my arrows, whenever I try to take a character screenshot. There's just not enough hotkeys to jam my arrows into their, too.)

I totally agree with the OP, since you cannot block with your shield unless your weapon, spell or fist is "unsheathed/readied", it would look better aesthetically speaking if you put the shield away (shield at the back would look awesome) to avoid blocking off the 1st person view and the weird clipping when walking and running in 3rd person. l always switch to a bow or 2H sword for this reason!

I still don't understand exactly how the shield would stay there. Does it just magically hang there until you reach back for it? Does it clip on? If it clips on, is it a fast release clip? If it's fast release, who made it? Can they even do that in the TES world? What materials would they use? What would it clip to? A backpack? What if you aren't wearing a backpack? Would it clip to your steel armor? What if the character is wearing a tavern outfit? What if you're wearing Steel Plate, don't you think that armor would interfere with the kind of arm flexibility you would need to reach up, over your shoulder, to grab the handle of the shield? Would that handle just kind of magically shift so you could grab it easily, or are we back to some kind of weird, out of place fast release mechanism? Just how quickly do you think you could ready that shield when a bandit is rushing at you swinging a war hammer?

Just because Dragon Age did it doesn't mean Skyrim needs to do it. It didn't make sense in Dragon Age, and it wouldn't make sense in Skyrim.

On the other hand, showing that second sheathed weapon is something I'd like. And it makes a whole lot more sense than a shield on your back.

This is a game where you stuff multiple weapons, pieces of armour and various other assorted items into bottomless pockets. I think we can leave this level of sense you're describing at the door.

Didn't stop them from having floating greatswords on your back in Skyrim.

I'm pretty sure templars used to have their shields on their backs, but I dont know what they used to hang it.

They use a belt that goes through the handle :lightbulb:

Gonna try this one later. though its hard to understand from the description but it looks like the shield is cosmetic and not one you can actually equip?
