Depends whether you view 100 miles as long distance

100 miles is quite a distance for relationship no matter where you live.

But once you get that far it really doesn't matter what the distance is exactly, the inconvenience is the same.

Not sure as I'm in the UK myself, calls and texts to my SO cost me nothing extra as she's also in the UK.

EDIT: You could also use the likes of whatsapp, since it uses the web.

Payphones, maybe? There are some pretty cheap cell phones you can get these days too.

This. I needed a new phone and came to realize I was due for a upgrade. Went to the AT&T store, saw all these $300 phones but all I need is a simple phone nothing fancy. Found one for 40 bucks!

Even the go-phones are $19.99. Try that.
