Is the Mass Effect Trilogy any good?

Post » Mon Nov 05, 2012 8:31 am

I would say the first 2 were great games. I haven't played the 3rd yet. I liked the 2nd more than the 3rd.

So you haven't played the 3rd yet, but you liked the 2nd one better then the 3rd? Interesting.

1 has sub-par gameplay but sets the scene well enough. It goes for the epic story. The Mako svcks - badly.
2 is absolutely brilliant, darker and worse tempered, lots of new features. Throws out the clunky parts from the first one. It goes for character led stories then climixes with the terrific suicide mission.
3 tries to outdo 2 but just can't quite manage it, the gameplay has some nice new features as well as some crap ones. It goes back to "epic story" and when it gets to the end falls flat on its face. Really nice music though!

I haven't played the 3rd yet, but 1 and 2 were great for me: the story, the characters, the dialogue, the combat and rpg stats not very much but the cinematic experience is truly fantastic.

ME2 was the best IMO. Beautifully balanced in terms of story and gameplay. Plus the options on the ending were the best I've seen in any game.

NO! It is true and completely accurate!

Don't listen to this person, no idea what they are talking about. Indoctrination theory is completely true and not false at all

Yeah, the real ending is the one where full-Paragon, Galactic Hero? Shepard pulled off the impossible win, and then retired to a nice beach to raise a whole bunch of cute little Asari commandos with Liara.

That's odd... I thought it was that Shepard wakes up from the Indoctrination. The combined fleet takes out the Reapers. Shepard and Garrus kick that creeper Liara out the airlock and and everyone has a party... Joker stubs his thumb on EDI but he heals up pretty quickly.

Actually, I prefer the ending where

Spoiler
Shepard was a mix of Paragon/Renegade throughout the series. More Paragon then Renegade though. In the end, despite what TIM and the Catalyst tells him, he does what he originally set out to do and destroys the Reapers. It kills him though, and in the last second, he realizes that he will die.

I have a thing for no-win or at an extreme cost endings.

If the ending to Mass Effect 3 is so bad, you could always....

Spoiler
Ensure you get the ending of Mass Effect 2 in which Shepard can apparently die, if I remember reading correctly, and you're story ends there with that. No Mass Effect 3 and the ending so many people seem to hate.

No?

You could do that, except you'd miss out on an awesome game. Even if you don't like the ending, it's about five minutes out of a possible 50-100 hour game.

No. I just mean that those complaining about the storyline could always just reload an old Mass Effect 2 save, ensure that happens and then their story would of course not include Mass Effect 3.

That's probably the most succinct way of describing them. :) Couldn't give a monkeys right nut for the multiplayer though.

ME1 - Great Story, Good Characters, Passable Combat
ME2 Okay Story, Great Characters, Good Combat
ME3 Great Story until the last second, Great Characters, Great Combat.

ME3 had a chance to go down as a legend, but that ending. It will never happen now.

I liked ME1's combat better. It was interesting to not have an ammo mechanic, but to worry about overheating instead.

I suppose I'm a bit biased.

On insanity:
Krogan 1 uses Immunity.
I use Immunity.
Krogan 2 uses Immunity.
Ashley uses Immunity.

And we just sit there firing our infinite ammo weapons until the krogans finally die.
