Dragon Mounts: Awesome or Lame?

Post » Tue Nov 06, 2012 8:41 am

It's going to be awesome, but I hope it's only available after the MQ (the whole DLC). It would be [censored] to fly around the whole skyrim with a level 5 character.
Whole skyrim is available as we can see the dragonborn flying near Throat of the World in the trailer.

Just because it shows the throat of the world in the background doesnt mean that you can fly anywhere in skyrim. I think thats jumping to conclusions. Hell he could be right above solthsiem in that shot, and you can still see the throat of the world from solthsiem. It IS the biggest mountain in tamriel, so you should be able to easily see its massive form from solthsiem.

The way i read about it saying that dragon mounting is going to be in its own world space, might mean you can only mount a dragon on a dragon vs dragon battle above the ocean between solthsiem and skyrim (so the player cant hit any obstacles) and cant free fly anywhere.

Personally if you could free fly that would be better, but just going off of bethesda's track record and how good they are at programming and making animations i dont think you're gonna be able to take a dragon and fly wherever you want. I just personally dont see bethesda as good enough programmers to pull that off yet.

Really to be honest, I don't know why riding dragons was and is, a big deal in the first place? I think, remember I'm going on a limb here, really hardcoe TES fans including myself, don't care for riding dragons all that much. Really if you think about it, its not that big of a deal. There is more important things to worry about in TES than riding dragons.

Every single person saying its lame is gonna light up like a Christmas tree when the dlc is launched. Quit being a bunch of hipsters. This is [censored] awesome. Nothing to date has ever been added to TES that is this frikkin awesome.

Exactly my thoughts on this. Im a hardcoe TES fan and i could care less about riding dragons. If i want a dragon riding game, ill go play lair or something. TES has never been about "awesome action!" but more roleplaying and "living another life in another world". to me, dragon mounting doesnt seem to add very much to that aspect of TES games.

Awesome. It may not be the best mechanic, but I think its a kick start for whats to come in future bethesda games like TES 6. Imagine a next gen TES game with a bigger map, better animations, and mounts in the future. I wonder if they will bring dragons back. The next step will be air to air combat. Imagine a huge battle in the sky and on the ground, very similar to the movie Avatar. I really like that bethesda is not holding back with things, even if its not perfect having it as a base will open the door for improvement in the future. Look at Horses and how they evolved. Horses were pretty bad before, then it got worked on for skyrim and its a huge improvement.

Neither nor. I'm not a fan and I'm a bit worried. Not worried because of the dragon riding per se (it could be optional anyway), but because of the "epicness" of it. Bethesda studios might feel obliged to "top" it somehow in the next game, and that means more gimmicky features, less overall depth and substance. I'm afraid with Skyrim they entered too deep the "epicness" path, and the new customers who are attracted to blingy action, "epic omg"ness and instant gratification will demand more and more. I hope to be proved wrong, but Bethesda is yet to demonstrate they can do both epic bling and compelling stories in the same game.

Thers lots of cut scenes in the game. Even mounting a horse has a tiny one. Why would mounting a dragon not have a cut scene?

Plus...I REALLY want to believe (Fox Mulder reference!) that dragon mounts exist!
