Graphics?

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 3:37 pm

Lol yeah it's fairly large, plus Rapidshare doesn't seem to care for fast download speeds...

K, well just wanted to come back and make sure it was downloading at all
Here's a http://bjvynz.webs.com/progs.pk4, you can just place it in the same folder as the pk4's of the pack I uploaded. So yeah, if you experience a huge slowdown with the parallax mapping then just delete it.

Lol and I noticed I've been calling them pk3's when in fact they are pk4's

LOL! So I wake up this morning and have only downloaded 750 mb out approx. 1 gig...... Still downloading though. I'll let it finish. Rapidshare does svck.

Finally got the whole thing! Ten hours 38 minutes...

Seriously though, thanks for uploading. Much appreciated.

It should be interesting to see what they do, but I didn't think the trailer did a very good job, personally.

One important thing they need to do is the sound. The original had some of the best sound ever, but only if you had 5.1 and set the game to surround effects. If they keep that, even enhance it, and get it to come through HDMI, the result should really be terrific, at least for those who have HDMI output.

Of course, for PC, that can be a bit of a problem for people who do not have HDMI output or people who have it but do not have a setup that allows playing through the HDMI output (e.g., physical layout of the room or other factors).

Still, I would hope they would keep or enhance what they had rather than go backwards in any fashion.

I won't need 5.1 surround sound :D turtle beeches on high volume will do the job.

I will be getting this for my 360. I am assuming the graphics will be on par to ultra high settings for the pc back in 2004. Nothing like the ugly first gen xbox port. I am assuming. This is only logical.

Hey Vynzent, do you think you can put this up on the Arrrrr! or something as a torrent? I've never even been able to download 100 mb of the file after several hours, when any other download would usually take me ten or so minutes. Often times I can't even make it to "several hours" because the download gets permanently interrupted. It's literally that slow.

Yeah, I never even tried downloading my upload, cuz it stayed in 0% long enough for me to go insane.

I've never created a torrent before, but I'll try and hopefully learn something new, lol.

Edit: Well I don't even know how exactly I am supposed to make the torrent, I just did what I could:
http://unzippeddsfiles.webs.com/Doom3%20hd%20tex%20and%20mods.rar.torrent file.

if that don't work, i'll just make a video on how to identifiy what files are needed from the Doom3HD mod.

Can anyone quickly explain to me how the hell a torrent works?
If I shut down my computer, would that make it so that your download pauses untill my PC is on again?
Or what happens when my PC is shutdown?

Idk please explain how this works, I've never hosted a torrent before...

I'm not entirely sure myself but if you shut it down, anyone else's download will pause until someone starts seeding it again. However, I can personally wait until tomorrow :)

K, thanx, I thought so.
This should be up a day more or two.
I'm not going to keep the torrent up forever, lol, so after a few days if anyone wants me to run it again just send me a PM ;)

Got it, thanks! However, I'm having yet another problem: I can't seem to get it working . Tried giving it its own directory and running it as a mod, tried installing it into the base folder, nothing seems to work. What am I doing wrong?

Inside the rar file is a folder.
You should be able to place the "Doom3 HD" folder in the main Doom3 folder (not base folder or any other subfolder) and see it in the list of mods when you run Doom3. It'll display as "Doom3 HD" or whatever you might've renamed it to.
The ONLY way it works is if you play in Ultra Quality
I think the lowest resolution that Ultra Quality will allow is 1024x768, so hopefully at that resolution you can still get a playable framerate.

Edit: It seems you can go lower than 1024x768, you just need to be at Ultra High
--------------------------------

Also, keep in mind that the mod wasn't made with fast framerate in mind. High poly models can slowdown even a good computer. Something that can really raise your framerate is disabling shadows :)

Ah, so I reckon I'm supposed to use all 3 pk4s then instead of just one?

Yes. All 3 are needed.
You can also just fuze all 3 into 1 if you have Winrar or Winzip. I just kept them as 3 because I'm lazy, lol.

Edit: Wait, never mind, lol. The reason I had 3 pk4's is because originally I planned to upload them separately, so that it wouldn't be 1 enormous file. That changed though, can't remember why.

Anyway, if you really wonna just go ahead and see everything, go to the testbox map, and just start spawning demons

You can see the improved lighting in the videos on the monitor in the background. For those that know doom 3 well, the lighting above the door looks alot different.

Another video it mentioned some of the textures have been improved. Not sure if it was from one of these Oculus Riff vids narated by John "on there" Carmack, Or one of the E3 interviews with that Bethesda guy.

Yeah, I remember watching those.
Wether the lighting is better is debateable though, the area they played through is supposed to be dark, and that game is supposed to be scary. In the video the whole place was light so bright it would hurt my eyes. How can a game be scary when you're attacked by a little imp here and there in the presence of totall brightness?

Well holy smacks, you're right the textures will be improved, for monsters and characters. I really hope to god they look nice, cuz if they do I will dump my hd pack any time to get professional quality :)
