Gosh, don't know but here in Alaska we teach our kids to use a weapon at an early age in case a bear comes in the house.

Well here in BC canada we have grizzly bears around all the time.

But of course we do tame them.

From what I have read, part of the DLC contains "kidnappers", so I guess there will be quests where you will have to rescue members of your family at some point.

Can you give a source to this information?

I was in Marakath after the battle of Whiterun before the Courier caught up to me about
Spoiler
Severio Pelagia
who is scripted to die during that batle. The courier can take days or weeks to actually appear.

I think the one dude in Markarth is always dead Unless you baby sit him.

bandits killing your children while the bandit chief has his way with your wife. That would be one effed up DLC.

That means we could do it with Ours too :o

On a serious note: if you aren't in the cell it won't happen

On a light hearted note: I live in Texas. My dad bought me my first .22 at 10, then a sword...Weapons=No Problems. "A Polite Society is an armed society" so true...
Lol just catch a skeever, tame it, train it to wink then train it to be your guard rat. Maybe your cow can suddenly get hit by Frenzy and start attacking the local bandits or giants...
Hey at least it'll give you a reason to get married or have companions. I love the personal bard (I wonder if you have to pay them....)

It's right in the description on the official site: http://gamesas.com/en-us/games/hearthfire

? New Objectives and Interactions – Guard your home from unwanted visitors like marauding kidnappers, armed bandits, and skeever infestations. Turn almost any follower into your personal steward to improve and protect your home. Or if you require more help, hire a personal bard or carriage driver to ease the burdens of home ownership.
