Do you have to be dragonborn to start this?

I remember the main quest being shoved down my throat in Both Arena and Daggerfall, so i don't see any changes :)
Have not played them but it was not in Morrowind and I liked the subtly done beginning of that game I did not even know I was in the main quest until I kept getting deeper in it, and then I was like hmmm this is a part of something bigger. But in Arena and Daggerfall was the main quest shoved down your throat in other instances like it is with the civil war and apparently with the Dawnguard expansion.

I just want to know that is it a requirement to progress through atleast part of the main quest? (The one where you fight your first dragon near Whiterun.) I am asking this because the DLC has new shouts and from this new "Legendary" Dragon. And since I have not even started it yet, can you please don't put any spoilers.

From everything I've read you just have to be level 10 or higher to enter the Dawn Guard area.

you can get the elder scroll without doing any main quest missions...at level 15 go straight to septimus' outpost and get the quest from him

The main quest was about the only thing Arena was, and in Daggerfall you were told early on that if you dont do the main quest right now, you will never get to, it was time based, sort of. so that's pressure enough for me

Ah yes I talked about the Daggerfall quest before that would drive me crazy.
