Do you have to be dragonborn to start this?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 1:42 am

I just want to know that is it a requirement to progress through atleast part of the main quest? (The one where you fight your first dragon near Whiterun.) I am asking this because the DLC has new shouts and from this new "Legendary" Dragon. And since I have not even started it yet, can you please don't put any spoilers.

Not one time during the questions have I been referred to as Dragonborn, even though I beat vanilla main quest. So I don't believe you're forced to beat the main quest

I meant like being forced to beat part of the main quest. And although I may not be refereed to as Dragonborn, It still could be a requirement.. (And I could see Beth doing something like this.)

I don't think so, I haven't and I'm pretty far in - you will need the elder scroll fro m the MQ though.

Wait? so I need to use the Elder Scroll as seen from the MQ in this? That means I have to go through the Main quest, and thus I have to be Dovakiin even though the person I made for this is not.. Congrats Todd Howard, you shoved the Dragonborn down our throats again! Correct me if I'm wrong.

That's exactly why I'm worried about this.

I don't believe you have to be Dragonborn to get the Elder Scroll. You have to get the Elder Scroll to complete the MQ, but the Elder Scroll can be acquired before that.

Note: I don't have Dawnguard, but I think I had a character who had the Elder Scroll who never did any of the other MQ stuff.

I wish Bethesda would stop shoving the main quest down our throats, they have been doing this since Oblivion just let it rest. We should be able to advance in the Dawnguard or the Volkihar without having to do the main quest.

the main quest in Oblivion was by far more independent than the one in Skyrim, in Skyrim you cant even be part of the civil war whitout having started the main quest .

Exactly! I just made a character for Dawnguard, who was a Redguard, and normal. (Originally) But now I have to become the uber Dragonborn and become the best of if your faction.. Just like the civil war..

you obviously don't know this series very well, because that's not how it works, it's a roleplaying game

True but they started shoving the main quest done our throats in Oblivion. That is where the changes to the series started all the flash and gutting.

You don't need to do the main quest to get the elder scroll. Just go an do the daedric quest from Septimus Signus and you'll get it.

So there are other Elder Scrolls besides that one in the Dwemer Ruin? Where is the Septimus Signus person?

Now that I think of it, the only game that didn't shove it down our throats was Morrowind. Still it seems that Skyrim shoved it down the most..

Unfortunately it dosent say how many roles. Just having a main quest could still be a roleplaying game, roleplaying is not equal to sandbox or freedom.

I just popped over to the spoilers section and saw that you can be level 1, not touch the MQ and still do Dawnguard in it's entirety.

But Bethesda's games are about "Do what you want, whenever you want" Just pulling a stunt like that doesn't stat true to the attraction of the Elder Scrolls.

Thanks, though is it required to have an Elder Scroll to do Dawnguard without doing the MQ?
