My Quick 360 Review

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 11:25 am

Just thought that I would give a quick first impression for those who have yet to buy the game.

Good- The 360 version runs very sweet and really looks the part with HDMI. Enviro detail looks great, walls, boxes, enemies are miles better than the Xbox port back in 2005. The game is a must buy for those who have yet to play Doom 3 or only the 2005 port. The size of the levels really makes the game feel completely new. Cut scenes are lovely, especially the old Doc stand-off against Counselor Swann. Audio is for the most part very good. I was surprised how quickly I adjusted to the new flashlight, the new lighting means that you dont need to use it too much, just a quick jab to check the corners then you are good to go.

Bad- The game follows the horrible trend that id have set of having no idea how to set a console controller. The dead spot is the same as Rage, which means that the camera still turns after letting go. Come on, id, you had plenty of feed back from Rage and should never have let this happen. Horrible! The other thing I noticed is the new checkpoint system. Why did id bother? A large bar appears on the screen and tells you that the game is saving. It cuts in on the action and ruins the whole feeling. We all know how to manually save....

I understanding the PC has a lot more annoying issues, but I would recommend the 360 version for those who are interested.

What are your first impressions of the id classic?

the game is flawless for me, graphics are very good for this revamped version and i like to say they POP in high def, youll know what i mean when you see it in person, the impact of getting hit and shooting is spectacular , not sure if that has been amped up but i dont remember being like this, the newly added sound effects are great, the new menus are great, the controls are perfect, the flashlight is very very comfortable to use, and i like the way it lights up like a flashlight and doesnt ruin the atmosphere, speaking of atmosphere , the game is a bit brighter too, but not in a bad way at all, its still dark and grimy, but at the same time silky metallic smooth, the way the movement feels and all that also feels great, as i said the game is flawless

the only bad thing i can think of isnt with the game itsself but you cant install it on your hardrive and have all doom and 2 also available to play, it tells me i have to uninstall the game to play those? that, i dont understand, i would like to install the whole thing and have everything available, because when this game is on its in long periods of time

On your dashboard, go to "my games," and Doom and Doom 2 show up in there. Launch the games from there and even if installed they will launch. I'm not sure how the devs and mods missed this, considering they made the game, but it works.
