Good- The 360 version runs very sweet and really looks the part with HDMI. Enviro detail looks great, walls, boxes, enemies are miles better than the Xbox port back in 2005. The game is a must buy for those who have yet to play Doom 3 or only the 2005 port. The size of the levels really makes the game feel completely new. Cut scenes are lovely, especially the old Doc stand-off against Counselor Swann. Audio is for the most part very good. I was surprised how quickly I adjusted to the new flashlight, the new lighting means that you dont need to use it too much, just a quick jab to check the corners then you are good to go.
Bad- The game follows the horrible trend that id have set of having no idea how to set a console controller. The dead spot is the same as Rage, which means that the camera still turns after letting go. Come on, id, you had plenty of feed back from Rage and should never have let this happen. Horrible! The other thing I noticed is the new checkpoint system. Why did id bother? A large bar appears on the screen and tells you that the game is saving. It cuts in on the action and ruins the whole feeling. We all know how to manually save....
I understanding the PC has a lot more annoying issues, but I would recommend the 360 version for those who are interested.
What are your first impressions of the id classic?
