[PC] Possibility of an HD DLC package?

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 1:19 pm

As nice as this would be, I think it's expecting a lot. I'm honestly very surprised they released an HD texture pack for the base game, and, given the quality of so many user-made texture packs, I'm not overly impressed with it. Really, unless you are simply intent on playing a strictly vanilla/official verison of Skyrim and its DLC, I don't see why an HD texture pack would even matter.

I added the HD texture pack for the first time when I reinstalled the game about a month ago; it did improve the visual appeal of the game in a number of areas. But by the time I finished adding mods like HD2k, SeriousHD, SRO, and SMIM... there was nothing left of Bethesda's "improvements".

I'm waiting for 2k HD Skyrim to come back.

On the other side, I saw big improvements with the original high-res pack, particularly with some of the armours and weapons. It also has the benefit of getting rid of the nasty blocky texture compression a lot of the textures suffer from, which is very nice.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8655/ (the nexus has been fairly ornery for me today, so that link may be playing up, it should be fine though).

I am guessing that the best bet would be a moder created HI Res pack for Dawnguard....Beth might have bigger fish to fry....I am guessing that the HI Res content was originaly created along with the main files for Skyrim but never implemented because it was always seen as a Xbox game first and a port second

Well... yes. But then it's likely that the same is true for Dawnguard.

TBH I'd much rather they focus their resources on gameplay improvements than eye-candy. Skyrim looks good enough as it is.

I agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment. I'm not the least bit graphics-centric when it comes to games. Hell, I still play games from the 80s from time-to-time.

Alas, as much as I agree, I'm afraid it's just wishful thinking.

Wait about 1 week for modders to start creating HD texture packs for Dawnguard and... bam! Will be better than the ofiginal, if it releases.

Really the industry loves to underplay PC sales because it allows devs to justify cutting corners. Skyrim probably sold even with or slightly outstripped the PS3 version when considering digital sales / VGChartz taking money from MS to deflate PC and maybe PS3 sales (they get PC numbers blatantly short almost as often as not). The only credible source these days is NPD, and even their numbers aren't perfect since Valve doesn't publish digital sales and retailers sometimes slip up.
vgchartz doesn't account for digital sales, that's the explanation for those numbers

I'm getting flashbacks to Mass Effect 3

SMIM stands for Static Mesh Improvement Mod. It improves things like cabinets, fruit/bread, drawbridge chains, shop signs, barrels and more.

Would link it but on my phone.
