Bethesda use the Soul Cairn for broken quests

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 4:39 pm

If Bethesda used the Soul Cairn for broken quests, we could finish all the questlines that are broken due to missing people.

Might be as simple as finding the ghost of the person you need to finish, or start the quest.

Just a thought :)

I talked to just about every one in the carin, the only ones that kick off a quest are the ones that have little side quests in the carin. Good theory but it doesn't work I've tried, they only have generic dialog

I think it was a suggestion, not an actual feature that is in Dawnguard

OH well in that case I'm all for it OP, that's a pretty good idea actually. More so for the folks having an issue with the vampire attacks.

Not a bad idea but it totally breaks lore as the soul cairn houses souls that have been used in soul gems...

An interesting idea. The problem is that this fix to Vanilla quests would only be available to Dawnguard users. I wonder what other afterlife plane Bethesda could use to house the souls of dead quest-givers? COUGHvngarde. 'Scuse me. Not the mead hall, of course, that's only open to Nords who die in glorious battle. But what about the purgatorial mists on the other side of the Whalebone Bridge, where you first arrive and can find the souls of those who died in the Civil War, King Torygg, etc.?

I know *I'd* like it if I could visit Sovngarde again after the MQ. Lorewise, it could be said that the DVK learned the knowledge necessary to travel to and from Sovngarde from Alduin's defeat. The DVK could be barred from re-crossing the bridge and entering the mead hall at will, since that is meant as the final rest of the glorious Nord dead, but the hill, word wall and misty valley would all be fair game.

So, if you kill someone who turned out to give you a quest later on, you could visit them in the Soul Cairn? Not a bad idea...

Bad idea , very bad.
Souls go to Soul Cairn ONLY after and IF they are trapped in Soul Gem.

From the perspective of someone who's used the creation kit, this idea would be a [censored] nightmare to implement. Bethesda would be better off just adding new quests.

Interesting, but goes against lore because to be in soul cairn the person must have been soul trapped in a black soul gem. Not that Bethesda cares about that anyway *cough* No werebears in Skyrim *cough*.

It would break lore... but, if done right, it'd be a bit of lore I wouldn't mind breaking too much. Or, for a more lore friendly version, make it so you actually have to track down the NPCs soul depending on their death circumstances.

No need, when we already have another perfectly good afterlife in-game that doesn't require soul-trapping. Just *SPOILERS*

*SPOILERS*

Let the Dovahkiin go back to Sovngarde after the MQ.

That limits you to Nords and the Soul-Trapped then. Where do others go? I've heard Atherius called an afterlife, but also not, so I'm quite confused.

Hahaha, would be hilarious.

1. Kill random npc
2. "Oh crap, he had a small fetch quest, what to do?"
3. Travel to Soul Cairn
4. Dovahkiin: "Uhh.. I.. Uhm.. Sorry about slitting your throat.. SO, with that out of the way, still need those watermelons fetched?"

Why a bad idea, I'm suggesting a fix for quest bugs. I think most gamers would love to complete their broken quests.
