Magika and VL question

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 8:06 am

So I know VL's take Magika, but I'm wondering if it's worth putting stuff like +Magika or +Magika Regen enchants on my stuff for it, because I wouldn't think it would do anything once you go into VL form since your not exactly wearing it anymore.

Supposedly only rings and necklaces can be worn with the Vampire Lord form but they have to be equipped before you turn into it.

It still affects you because you were wearing it when you transformed. Unlike the WW transformation, it doesn't strip you to your loincloth when you switch to VL form. So all effects of clothing/jewelry/armor are still in effect.

For instance, the Royal Vampire Armor offers a +125% magica regen rate. Still works for you in VL form.

This is not true. I have some ridiculously enchanted armor with some exessively high enchantments on them that I made for the purposes of farming out certain areas back when I was still leveling up. Once I maxed everything I dropped the armor. Well, I went a did a test and took that armor (of which gives me 21500 health) and put it on before turning into a Vampire Lord. I did NOT have 21500 health when in Vampire Lord form. Same thing with rings and necklaces. Only certain items will stay equipped when in VL form. Obviously the quest items that are specifically for a VL (from the quest given to you by the dude in Volhikar castle) will stay equipped. I cannot confirm or deny that Royal Vampire Armor will stay equipped but it is an item received from the vampire clan so it wouldn't surprise me if it did stay equipped.

Well, like I mentioned in another thread, getting a buff that high is due to the Restoration glitch.

Being that it's a glitch, nobody knows exactly how it will affect your character or the math that tracks stats. It is, after all, a glitch.

Therefore, the Restoration glitched items may not be working as they normally do with the brand spanking new code that makes up Dawnguard.

Now a legit piece of enchanted armor will probably work correctly, it's operating well within the guidelines of the Dawnguard code strings.

Because of the glitched nature of said item, the code may not recognize the buff that is supposed to be added to your character beyond the games' normal programmed maximum. Thus, it sort of "caps" itself, hence why you aren't getting the full value of the buff when operating it on a model that is purely made up of Dawnguard code such as the transformed Vampire Lord form.

In "Human" form, your character still runs off of the vanilla Skyrim code, thus the Restoration glitched item gives out it'd full effect. When transformed, you're running off of almost pure Dawnguard code, and the DG code may not recognize the glitch beyond a certain set maximum value.

That's my theory at least.

That's a good point and that may very well be the case. My thought was that, despite the fact that I exploited a mechanic in the game (The fact that enchantments are tagged as "restoration" spells may have been a mistake by Bethesda but it's not exactly a glitch) to make a ridiculous enchanting potion shouldn't effect the enchantment made after taking said potion. In any case, another reason I was assuming stuff was unequipped is because my health and stamina in VL form were the same as my health and stamina without anything equipped at all. That said, my magika was higher. Mabye it was a coincidence that my health and stamina in VL form were 500 each and my base health and stamina without anything equipped were 500 each also. Can you confirm that a base VL has 500 health and stamina?

I cannot confirm or deny that. Unlike when you go into your regular Skills menu, the VL Perk menu doesn't show Magica, Health, or Stamina... makes it kind of difficult to tell... lol

All I can do to tell if items are working is to watch the different rate of regen for the three stats and compare them from when I'm in "normal" form to, when I'm in VL form.

There may also be some special rules regarding what enchantments work for your vamp lord form. (Like, items you enchant dont work, or enchantments that are to powerfull dont work, or some kind of enchantments dont work)

This also is quite possible. They may have programmed in some specific rules for what does and does not apply to the VL form.

Yea that's another good point. Similar to the way follwers will only be affected by certain enchantments on the armor you give them.

Really? Haha Mabye I'm losing it. I thought you could see your health magika and stamina when looking at the perk screen. I was a beta tester though and I played the [censored] out of this as soon as i got my code but was busy as hell this past week and haven't played recently.

Also enchanted items still give you the bonus, at least my adept robes, amulet and ring does.
