Smoothing Cliffs for game flow

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 4:07 am

Hi guys,
since I got a cave-level I'm working on and it's got a big room with cliffs and water I'm wondering if there's a method
to get a smoother transition from water to soild ground.

Actually I was wondering how they managed it to get their transitions from water to cliff-top so good, especially on the ice floes. When I remember
the constant hopping in Morrowind or Oblivion to get out of the water...

So do you guys know any method (collision object, dirt mounts etc.) to get a more suitable transition from water to land to sustain a certain walk flow?
thanks

Is terrain sculpting available to you? try pushing h while in the creation kit. If so you can use soften vertices in that new window to make transitions less sudden. A word of caution, save before you do this (I often found myself not liking the results or softening too much.

Thing is I'm not in the terrain sculpting mode. I just added the template cliffs and boulders out of the "green cave box".

In-game they mostly use ramps, boulders and dirt mounds (in interior cells). Ice floes seem to work a bit differently
