Bethesda are secretly vampires... They don't wanna give the players to much power. But joking aside it does seem strange to not throw in a few more silver weapons and making them upgradable.

Edit: Do Silver weapons do more damage to vampires?

Indeed, that explains everything!

Yes, they do.

That explains nothing. Vampire got the shaft in this DLC.

In TES Lore silver doesn't hurt Vampires much, it hurts werewolves.

The Dawnguard weapons do extra vamp damage. It would be cool to be able to mix it up a bit, a Daedric silver combo or some such.

Actually, silver weapons and daedric weapons are the only kinds that hurt ethereal spirits in Oblivion, and the weapons you get from the Silver Hand specifically say they do increased damage to the undead, which includes vampires. They're just as effective against vampires and whatnot as they are against werewolves.

Werewolves aren't classed as undead. So silver is more effective against vamps than werewolves.

According to the UESP, the Silver Weapons do extra damage to both werewolves and undead. They probably didn't mention werewolves because Bethesda barely included any to begin with, while there are plenty of vampires about.
